If the UK's physical games chart is anything to go by, Tekken 8 looks to be a hit for Bandai Namco. It's debuted in the number one spot, with nearly two thirds of copies sold being the PS5 version. According to GamesIndustry's Christopher Dring, the game's physical launch sales are "more than double" those of Street Fighter 6 — though this doesn't account for digital at all. Still, it's clearly a very healthy launch weekend for Tekken.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth settles for second place, but that's still a strong result for for SEGA's series. Again, the PS5 version is the most popular at physical retail, accounting for just over three quarters of the total.
The duo of new releases forces the usual suspects down the pecking order. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is third, EA Sports FC 24 is fourth, and Hogwarts Legacy is down from first to seventh. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has also moved down, now in 10th after debuting in fourth place.
Here's the latest top 10 in full (physical sales only).

I've not played a game in the series since Tekken 3 but I got this at launch and it's so muchbfuna and looks amazing. I'm so bad at the moment but still having a great time getting to grips with it playing as King and it does a really good job of teaching you how to play
Might be very well be the fighter of the gen. It looks stunning, the campaign is pure hype and the fighting is incredible.
Please post the top 40, as Nintendolife does (https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/01/uk-charts-mario-wonder-narrowly-makes-the-top-five-as-new-releases-fight-for-gold). Because I was wondering what happened to TLoUP2R. Spoiler: It went down from 3 to 11.
"Nearly two thirds on PS5" means it actually sold a lot of physical copies on Xbox, which is the slightly surprising thing here (not that I expected it to do bad on Xbox - just that Xbox users barely buy physical these days)
Played a bit of Tekken 8 yesterday and it’s just so crazy how different the game feels than other fighters. I’d gotten used to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter, but Tekken is a whole different beast entirely. Man, did I have fun playing some Tekken Ball!
Really happy that Tekken and Like a Dragon managed to push MW3 and FC 24 down (at least for a week)
@Voltan, Yea it's surprising considering half the Xboxes in people's houses are digital only Series S machines.
But I guess Xbox owners have a lot more disposable cash to buy new AAA stuff because they are handed a lot of free games on Gamepass.
Japanese games rocking the top spots of the UK chart is always a good to see.
@Sil_Am and tbh - while I personally still like my single player games physical, I always get my fighting games digital, so I can alternate between both those things without juggling discs (I'll be playing this for literal years).
I don't really know if others are like this though.
Suicide Squad: KTJL is currently ahead of LAD:IW in the UK Digital PS Store chart 😬 obviously physical sales for that aren't going to count yet as the game isn't out, but it's looking like it will have a stronger debut than LAD.
Someone could probably do some math and work out some potential sales numbers based on usual LAD figures. Be interesting to see the article next week to see if it translates to a strong physical release ☠️
Tekken 8 is really a game you can’t miss
@Voltan I would go along with that, if you look at uk market xbox physical games lose their value quicker than PS5 games in second hand markets. In CEX xbox version of a game is typically £5-8 less. I thought that was combo of reduced demand for physical sales and smaller install base.
@Ravix Beating Like a Dragon won't equate to a strong release in the eyes of Rocksteady though.
The last Yakuza main game sold 1.8 in three years, whereas the last Rocksteady game sold that 3 times as much in only 3 months.
@Voltan Maybe the people who like physical are showing their support after the latest rumours.
@Max_the_German Well it has a divisive story and I'd imagine a lot of people just upgraded for £10
I figured PS5 would account for more than 2/3 of total sales. I'm a little surprised they sit at 2/3 in physical sales. It's surprising for multiple reasons:
1) The fan base is on PlayStation
2) There are twice as many PS5s out there than Xbox Series X|S
3) Microsoft has been training Xbox fans not to buy games.
I'm not sure if we'd ever get the full sales data breakdown, but I suspect it would be very interesting.
As it should be,Tekken 8 is so much fun so I'm not surprised that in no 1 but it hard for me to choose which game I should be playing either Tekken 8 or Granblue Versus Rising, not mentioned Granblue Relink so much fun.
Well deserved, Tekken 8 is absolutely phenomenal. I've always loved the series but this one is really special. Up there with my other favorite entries, 3 and 5.
Seeing cod mario and gta in these charts is starting to get annoying after all this time ⏲️ 😒
