Naughty Dog recently released Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II, a two-hour documentary delving into the creation of the mammoth sequel. Full of in-progress footage and stories from development, It's well worth watching, and you can do so for free on YouTube. In its closing moments, Neil Druckmann says he has a concept for a third game, and while that's exciting, it's very likely the studio will release something else beforehand.
Druckmann's comments suggest a potential The Last of Us 3 currently only exists in his head, which means, if it does get made, it'll be years and years before we see it come to fruition. We know Naughty Dog is currently working on something, though, so it stands to reason we'll see what that something is before another Last of Us comes our way.
When the studio cancelled its multiplayer game The Last of Us Online, it stated it's now working on "more than one ambitious, brand new single player game". If The Last of Us 3 really is just a concept floating around Druckmann's noggin, it could be that we'll actually see at least two other games before it's realised.
There's some ropey rumblings about a potential Uncharted: Drake's Fortune remake, but other than that, your guess as to what the team will conjure up next is as good as ours. We know what it won't be, though.
What would you like to see next from Naughty Dog? Discuss in the comments section below.

Guess we'll have to wait until some low life hacks them to find out...
A new jak and daxter would be great. Or that sci-fi or fantasy game they mentioned at one point. Will be very interesting to see what they can do with that genre.
I am sure they can crank out a couple more remasters before last of us 3
It's been a bit of an open secret for quite awhile that there working on a new IP.
At this point, I could care less what Naughty Dog does next.
Whatever it is, it better not be The Last of Us or Uncharted related. It's time to cleanse the palate a little.
That's fine, I'd love to see a new IP from Naughty Dog for a change, it's been a while.
I do believe that The Last of Us Part III was already in development in 2023, and maybe prior. Neil knows how to market his games, so I think that his statement in the documentary was the beginning of the marketing campaign for the game. I love TLoU, so I will eagerly wait for 3. I'm really up for a new IP being their next game.
Thank god it's been a decade without a new IP from them. I'm so over TLOU
That quote from Neil was filmed in April 2023. It's clear that The Last of Us Part III is at least in pre-production. Though, as they hinted they have multiple single player games in development, it seems likely their next game isn't The Last of Us Part III. It's most likely the new sci-fi IP that has been rumored. I wonder if they could also be working on Uncharted or Jak (maybe that's just a dream).
Naughty Dog actually makes new games? Thought they just remastered old games now.
I'd guess new IP in 2025/2026 and then TLoU 3 in June 2028 before the PS6 comes out.
Good, although obvious anyway.
Can't wait for whatever comes out from the best studio out there.
But... That multiplayer still needs to happen too. Someday.
It sounded like more than just an "in my head" sort of thing to me personally. There's also the HBO show situation to consider. I'm not saying they would have a big say in what the studio works on next but I wouldn't be surprised if the HBO higher-ups maybe...gave Neil a little nudge in TLOU3's direction. They don't want another GOT situation.
I be excited to see whatever ends up coming next from them.
Yeah I really hope we can find out from them at an event and not casually learn about it from some scumbag @Hundred_Hand_Slap
New IP ftw! Would love to see some kind of RPG from them, their world building is strong
Something new would be good , bored of the same games being churned out
I'll take anything that isn't tlou or Uncharted... well and live service because we have so much evidence now that it's a disaster when single player studios try to go the live service route (BioWare, Platinum Games, Crystal Dynamics, Rocksteady 👀)
I hope they make something totally different, and not yet another cinematic game.
They made some excellent platformers in the past, and wouldn't mind a new one.
@theSpectre Don’t forget that Druckmann is also working on TLOU season 2 as production spins up. So while TLOU P3 MAY be in pre production, my guess is that it’ll be slowed by his work on the show.
I've read somewhere that their next title will be a fantasy game.
their next project is just gonna be another movie with deep narratives
As much as I love Jak & Daxter, I’m more excited to see something new. A sci-fi action adventure with a colourful art style like Crash & Jak would be a dream come true.
If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it announced a while back that Naughty Dog was working on a brand new IP? Regardless, whatever they decide to make I will be there day one. I don’t care if it’s Uncharted 5 or TLoU Part 3 — I’ll buy whatever they are selling.
With that said, my theory is that they are going to be working on a science fiction project in some capacity. I feel like they have been hinting at it from the last two TLoU games, with the comic books and trading cards. That would be really cool to see.
@AdamNovice yeah I heard the same, can't remember where I read it a while ago that it was going to be a new IP, be interesting to see which way they will go
Well it needs time for the characters to age so probably ps6 with older models for some of the characters with the time jump happening
@Kraven It's been hinted at, for awhile, they are working on some kind of new sci-fi IP. I don't think it's the case now, but at one point I suspected it could be an adaptation of savage starlight from The Last of Us universe.
Naughty Dog has only released Uncharted and The Last of Us games since 2007, it would be nice if we got a completely new IP.
Something new, fun and lighthearted would be great. I know they seem built for dire and helpless situations but we get that in real life on normal basis now and need some fun and stupid ***** to smiles 😁 on our faces and in our hearts.
I'm playing the first Jak and Daxter game right now, and then eventually the whole trilogy from the PS Plus Classics Catalog. It would be nice if Naughty Dog would go back to making games like those; The Last of Us is way too dark and serious-toned for my personal taste.
It will be a remake of a remaster, and then a fully rebuilt remaster of the remake 🤣😂
Lots of negative comments in here 🤨
ND have never failed to deliver
Mixed feeling on this. On one hand, I really was impressed with TLoU2 and the thought of waiting another 10 years for a third entry is depressing. On the other hand, I am ready to see what ND can do as far as a new IP.
Maybe we can get both rather quickly? A new IP in 2025 and TLoU3 in 2027…? 😅
I can dream.
Just give us Factions 2. Somehow.
I think they should develop Dragon’s Lair Remastered. It’s so their game model
I know it takes a long time to develop games nowadays but naughty dogs output this generation has been disappointing. Literally nothing new to show more than 3 years into the console cycle.
I use to love Naughty Dog, Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and the Vita version?
The Last Of Us 1 and 2........... But with the constant remasters and remake of the Last Of Us, It seems they have become a cash grab studio.
I don't really care what they do next
Hopefully the Uncharted remake, as much as I love Uncharted, never becomes true. Naughty Dog has already done enough remakes and remasters for a whole console generation so far, so as long as we get new games from here on out, I'll be good.
TLOU 1 remake is feeling a bit dated at this stage. I really hope work is underway on a remake of that.
They might release tlou 3 just before the release of the ps6, then do a remaster of tlou 3 for ps6, then a remake of tlou 1 and 2, then a remake of uncharted 5 for ps6, then...😉
More than happy for them to take a break from TLOU.
Jak would be my preference but a new IP would be sweet too!
