The eternal churn of online scuttlebutt continues apace, and this time, our old pal Nathan Drake is said to be coming out of retirement. According to XboxEra's Nick Baker and John Clarke, the very first game in the series — Uncharted: Drake's Fortune — might be in the running for a PS5 remake.
Speaking on their podcast, the pair have apparently been told about the project independently from each other. As the discussion continues, it's said that an Uncharted 1 remake was pitched "a number of years ago" and that the new evidence shown to Baker and Clarke suggests "at the very least, it was being strongly considered" to go into production. They stress this doesn't mean it's "100 per cent happening".
So, this is a super murky rumour, as it's not even asserting that the game is definitely coming — just that it might be. Baker in particular has gotten things right before, however, most recently teasing several announcements for last week's State of Play that were all correct.
What's the real likelihood of a Drake's Fortune remake, then? Well, we already have the Nathan Drake Collection on PS4, which is of course backwards compatible on PS5, so the game is already accessible on modern consoles. However, the original game falls short of its sequels in terms of gameplay, so a remake might be a good opportunity to improve it.
This also isn't the first time we've heard about a potential revisit to Uncharted. As noted by PSU, Bloomberg reported that PlayStation's Visual Arts Group was planning a Drake's Fortune remake, but attention was shifted to The Last of Us: Part I instead.
What do you think? Could an Uncharted: Drake's Fortune remake really be on the way? Ride a jet ski into the comments section below.

Surely they can do a triple remake. 1, 2 and 3 all re done for current gen console. That would have me buying it for sure.
I think 3 is fantastic buts even that as the newer of the 3 is showing its age.
I personally think that story wise all Uncharted games are interchangeable. Why can't they just make a 5th game?
Rather have part 2 or just a sequel/spin off. But I'll take anything from uncharted.
It deserves a remake more than TLOU part 1 did. It actually needs to be modernized.
However, this remake strategy Sony and Nintendo are jumping on lately isn’t going to be selling me copies of things unless they really do something new with the remakes. I want FF7 Remake style remakes where at least there’s surprises.
completely baffling alongside the HZD remake. the stories in these games are not interesting enough to deem a repeat.
Unless they are now using this route as a Dev proving ground to see if they greenlight them a proper budget/acquisition by sony, I'm starting to find these choices more and more insane as more of them get announced.
Noooo, give us a new IP or at least a sequel please Naughty Dog. It’s been nothing but remakes and remasters for best part of 3 years now. Just seems like a massive waste of the talent over at ND.
It was actually pitched at Sony Bend which is old news, was actually meant to be heavily in development on a demo.
Remake all 3 games and Golden Abys and put them all together in a package I would buy day 1
I’ve never played an Uncharted game, but wouldn’t mind getting into the series. A remake of the first game would be perfect for me
Getting real tired of these remakes now. My view is that if you can still play the originals on current gen hardware (which you can with this game) then it's just a cash grab. If you are remaking something from a dead era that is impossible to play without emulation (e.g. Shadow of the Colossus or Metroid Prime) then I'm sort of OK with it. But this... why?
I dearly love Playstation, I'll never forget being sicker than a dog on my birthday and opening a PS1 to my utter shock and joy. It started a long love affair and brand loyalty, and grabbing a pS5 during the shortage was almost the same joy again.
I have not bought a single PS5 only game yet this Gen, and all these remakes are not exactly making me want to. This generation has been surreal
@somnambulance the part one remake wasn't unnecessary. The difference between the original and that is undoubtedly significant, graphical and gameplay wise.
But yeah, if the decide to remake a game they should add more plus content which leaves the original story intact and expans it even more.
To train more new hires, right? While the senior staff members continue to work on new IP?
I don’t think this will be well-received amongst the enthusiast crowd. There’s already a lot of grumbling about Sony, and specifically Naughty Dog, just rehashing old IP.
I guess the TLoU Part 1 approach was successful, but I think doing Uncharted 1 might be a bridge too far. I played it through the Nathan Drake collection recently and running at 60 fps it’s still plays pretty well.
I guess it needs a remake more than Horizon Zero Dawn, but I do hope if they do this that it doesn’t take Naughty Dog or Sony away from the new games in development.
Is this the Bend one or another new rumor?
Anyways, I'd rather have a Killzone, Infamous or Resistance remake.
Hells, throw in some Sly or J&D
EDIT: Oh, and Syphon Filter too almost forgot about this one.
@somnambulance In case of Nintendo I at least can understand it cause they probably save the big, new stuff for their next console
if this is true it'll be really disappointing to me.
This gen is so dull, particularly Sony themselves! when it's all said and done, are we gonna say these remakes defined the generation? C'mon, give us some original games!
That's nice and all, but how about giving the remakes/remaster a break and give us some news games in the franchises.
Assuming this has any legs, I’d kinda wish they’d redirect their efforts to remaking the Jak and Daxter games instead (assuming it has to be a ND game); Uncharted 1 might be a bit simpler than it’s successors, but I don’t see a remake doing that much for it, (unless they decide to completely flesh it out into a much bigger game), whereas the Jak and Daxter games could probably benefit at least somewhat from an overhaul and expansion (though a new game might be a better approach even then…)
Have they completely run out ideas. Honestly I am getting quite sick of remakes, especially for games that are already available on that platform.
Have Naughty Dog forgotten about Jak and Daxter? Why not remake those games instead, PS4 remaster of Uncharted is great enough doesn’t need a remake
@Martijn87 Part 2 was called Uncharted 2
@BiosNova that's unbelievable, how genius of them.
Please don't, there are 3 amazing remasters, leave it that way. If only they remade Infamous or Resistance or something that is stuck on PS3
It's kinda depressing being in your 40s and realising you're only gonna get a few more of your favourite franchises due to the increased development cycles. We used to have two-three games per generation, nowadays its basically one and done for many.
@BiosNova with sub title "Among Thieves"
Omg when did they last make a new game
Four years into ps5 and no new game
no buying from me.
start making new games, please.
Several commenters are pointing at Naughty Dog, but nothing in this rumour indicates they would be developing it. I know their recent track record doesn't point a great picture, but this would surely be a job for another studio. Naughty Dog hasn't suddenly become a remake factory.
No thank you. It's the most overhyped game of all time imo
I'd like a remake of this, but how about bringing golden abyss to console from the Vita? I really liked that game, would definitely like to play it again
God why is Sony these stupid as hell remakes. Like I know Drake's Fortune is now basically a decade and a half old now but oh my god Sony you released all 3 titles on PS4 and made them play like they haven't aged a day. They could be literally doing any other game that could use a remake more, hell even from the PS3 that could use another chance and be refined but no, they gotta remake Drake's Fortune because Sony need to have all of the casual gamers play a new version of a game that's already great and modern looking for a full $70 of wasted effort when they could just try and market the Nathan Drake collection to them by maybe just upgrading the game to have a new native PS5 version
Yes! Honestly, it's my favourite one from the series.
I love Uncharted 1 but the controls have aged like milk. Definitely a remake that I wouldn't be against if it happens.
This has become the most boring console generation, when it comes to proper new first party console exclusives.
I hope this remaster/remake trend dies soon.
Or the PS6 gen, will be just as bad...
I'm actually having more fun discovering games I haven't played yet, on the PS2 and PS3, than I do with this one.
Naughty Dog might as well rename themselves Bluepoint 2
@Steel76 I feel like the PS3 was the last generation where Sony were still trying weird experimental games — remember oddities like Super Rub a Dub and Trash Panic? You don't really see stuff like that from them anymore.
God this remaster ***** is getting old now, obviously ideas have ran dry. For Gods sake create some new IPs.
@CallMeDuraSouka Don't you do any research when you buy a new console?
@Steel76 Its one of my favorite generations I have so many fantastic games to play. 😅
This is exactly the kind of thing people worry about with a particular company having too much of a commanding lead over competition:
Maximum profit, minimal effort.
It just goes to show the kind of hold Sony has on people as it's defended and celebrated. The fact Sony has been able to get away with reselling the PS4 first-party games with native PS5 versions is worrisome.
In some cases, it will throw in some DLC-level extras to entice you to pay the upgrade fee (The Last Us Part 2 Remastered). In other cases, it's a full engine overhaul and no upgrade fee (The Last of Us Part 1). In some cases, there is zero reason for the upgrade fee and just ended up being the PS5 tax (Ghost of Tsushima).
In other words, Sony knows it can get away with this, so it will do it.
I love Sony's first-party games. I love the third-party exclusives it manages to secure. I hate its business model.
Yes, I don't have to buy the game and still enjoy the PS4 version of a game. It's more about the principle of it all. Clearly people buy them, or else Sony wouldn't keep doing it. But it gets old.
I hate to defend Nintendo as it seems like I am giving them a free pass, but it made sense why the Switch had so many Wii U releases: the Wii U was a total commercial failure and the Switch was not. Nintendo was probably still trying to get an ROI from those games. Plus, it's not like you could still play a Wii U version on the Switch!
Now if Nintendo tries to pull that tactic, again, with the Switch 2 I would feel the exact same way I feel here.
The PS4 was a roaring success and so is the PS5. PS4 games can still be played on PS5 (including The Nathan Drake Collection). Stop remaking games that can still be played on the current system!
"New generation" doesn't mean last generation with a new coat of paint.
This is the result of rising game development costs. Less expensive to remake something, sells better because it’s a known commodity.
Too much risk with spending $100-200 million on a new IP. We saw what happened with Star Field and other new IPs that don’t sell as well. Spend less, quicker cycle, easy money.
It’s going to be licensed games, remakes, established IPs for a while with a few new ideas sprinkled in.
Didn't we already know this was cancelled. I thought Michael Mumbauer, ex-head of Sony VASG, discussed this on Jaffe a while back. Perhaps they resurrected it.
Sounds believable as Nathan Drake Collection was never ported to PS5/PC. Given the nature of Jim Ryan's Playstation, the only reason Nathan Drake Collection wouldn't be ported to PS5/PC is because the individual games get remade for PS5/PC instead.
@ajbrasel
Sony should focusing on making some new single player IP's on smaller AA budgets (like in their early generations), so they can start taking risks again, with new crazy concepts, and fill the void between the AAA games, with new games, instead of remakes/remasters.
Eh, I don't need an Uncharted 1 remake. It already got a pseudo-remake in the Nathan Drake Collection. Just remaster that collection (with Golden Abyss) for PS5 and PC and the would be enough. Give me Uncharted 5 already.
@GeeEssEff the good news is if this is true it would be like bluepoint or some one else doing it. Naughty dog is working on a new game, maybe they would help over see it but they aren’t doing it
@GamingFan4Lyf I didn’t read all of this but I think people easily over react to rumors
let the lunacy continue i suppose. we will be in year 8 of the ps5, still awaiting a new idea from naughty dog. at this point, they may not even be targeting the ps5 with their next big project and might as well look ahead to the ps6. mismanaged doesnt even begin to describe the studio these days.
There are numerous titles stuck in the PS3 era that could do with a spit & polish onto current consoles (I am including the PS4 here too).
I'm looking at Motorstorm (all of them), Little Big Planet 1 & 2 and Modnation Racers (& Road Trip) for starters.
Whilst Motorstorm may be difficult due to the demise of Evolution, LBP is from a Sony Studio and Modnation Racers was assisted by Sony's San Diego Studio.
The Uncharted remasters were and and are fine. If you want Nathan Drake back, give us number 5 and not another f****ing remaster! Either that or tie it in with young Nate as per the films.
I'm fully on board with remakes IF they're actually needed. There are so, so many games from the ps1 and ps2 eras that would greatly benefit from a remake. Yet, we keep getting word of ps3 and even ps4! remakes (Until Dawn). It's hard not to feel like they're just going for the lowest effort cash grabs.
Uncharted is my favourite game series ever but I'm fed up with all of the constant remakes.
They would have to add a hell of a lot in terms of controls, options and presentation for me to even consider buying this game for the third time.
For the people who are fed up with remasters/remakes . . . if you or others keep buying them then they'll keep making them.
This is all on the people who keep buying them despite already owning them and having played them multiple times.
@RicebinBernacky because all they have to do with more recent games in up the res and framerate, add a touch more foliage and then the sheep will go out and buy it.
An remake of older games would take actual work.
@Flaming_Kaiser What kind of nonsense response was that?
Was I suppose to know that 3+ years into PS5, we'd have only niche 1st party games- excluding SM 2? Here Sony is talking about possibly More remakes......PS4 might have been this barren, don't recall but I do remember the constant remasters
this is sad, but im apparently a fanboy for thinking this way when i say that sony having a monopoly and cruising off the ps4s success is a bad thing
@CielloArc
Didn’t Sanzura Games shut down?
The company behind Thieves in Time.
Insomniac games would have to get the rights back unless someone else has access to Sly as an IP
We are stuck on a remake/remaster loop, WHEN WILL IT END?!
I wish all those remakea and such be done with. It would be much better all this time to be spent in new games. Never new why people are hyped for smth old in a fancy dress...
Christ.. Gaming has become so dull now. I used to love getting a new game, very few from Sony are original now and has become very mundane. It's like they have lost all imagination. I understand there are people who have never played these games before, but the originals (while clunky) are definitely playable. Give us something original.
This is clearly being done so there's a PC version to tie in with Uncharted Legacy Collection. But can't have a PC version without people wanting a PS5 version too. As long as the main team is working on their next project and this is being taken care of by a smaller team, no problems here.
If they added a VR mode I would be all in for this remake. Otherwise, I really liked the uncharted series and a modern version surely would be appreciated by some people.
I'll wait for uncharted 1 re-remake for ps6 lol.
PS5 - Remakes Have No Limits
It's even worse given how everything Naughty Dog has put out so far for the PS5 is either a remake or a remaster (or a re-release in the case of Uncharted). I really do hope this never comes true as they've already done more than enough of these, even though I'm a huge Uncharted fan.
This is just more of the same for Sony. There really isn't anything more to be said. This and the rumored but likely HZD cash grab....
It's just kinda sad at this point. Sad to see the greed driven factory that Sony is becoming, and sad to see the glossy eyed cattle that line up outside the factory gates waiting to lap up this regurgitation with open arms, and attack anyone who points out this drool has alreayed been digested.
Uncharted 1 was never my favourite in the series overall with the bullet sponge enemies so it's meh on this one
@twitchtvpat good point mate. The work blueprint did on Demons Souls was sublime so I could get onboard with them doing it
@Steel76 I’m not defending what Sony - but unfortunately that’s not going to happen. It’s a business and they want to maximize profits. They got away from making those types of games because it wasn’t profitable. Those games don’t sell well and having people work on something that likely won’t make money isn’t a sustainable way to run a business.
It’s why Insomniac is essentially going to be a Marvel studio now - those games sell.
Once again - not defending what they are doing. I don’t like it..but it’s the reality of the situation.
