In addition to showing some prototype footage of a Gravity Rush movie during its CES 2024 press conference, the firm also debuted a couple of clips of a Patapon project during its TorchLight showcase. The overlay explains that the company’s new studio space can be used for “IP development” including in gaming and anime.
We’ve timestamped the segment below:
To be honest, we don’t expect anything to actually come of this – it’s an unexpected inclusion in the video to say the least. But it’s not the end of the world if it all comes to nothing, because Patapon is getting a spiritual successor from its original creative team in the form of Ratatan, which was crowdfunded last year and is scheduled to launch on PlayStation in the future.

People actually buying what they ask for would have been very helpful to get the third port ... but never say never, who knows maybe they make Patapon the next Pingu lol
@gymratAmarillo
The reason new IPs fail is because they aren't bought, by the exact same demographic who constantly whines "tHeReS nOtHiNG oRiGInAL aNyMoRe"
I hope this comes to fruition. But, I don’t think it’s happening. PlayStation needs it more than ever. Their first party lineup is getting stale and predictable tbh. Portfolio diversification is important.
This looks like a prototype for the tech, not a new game or anything. It is cool that folks within Sony still remember Patagonia though!
Honestly, of Sony actually had the balls to revive Patapon and try to evolve it into something beyond the original 3 games, I would buy that in a heartbeat. Hell I would say it would be a more captivating exclusive for the PS5 personally than most of the games they've put out so far. I know that it is wishful thinking, especially with the fact that original heads of the series are now working on Ratatan, but Sony putting a new spin on the series and making it more 3D would be something I would get so hyped for
@KingSimba Not if people don't buy them...that was the problem in the first place.
Who knows if that's actually a new game or not but the og creators of patapon are now part of a new studio called TVT I think, and are making a successor called Ratatan. It looks great, it'll be on all platforms and should be supported by anyone who loves patapon
@PegasusActual93 it could be that but it could also be that the people who want and support these creative and different games are greatly outnumbered by people who don't care for them and want the usual sony exclusive, souls game, etc
