@nomither6 It's a bit weird when you say "metacritic is only right when used in someone’s favor" when you yourself just mention that "most people agree" without ever backing that up with numbers in any way. Are you sure that's not your echo chamber?
Anyway, Spider-Man 2 was nominated for game of the year at TGA, and was one of the most nominated game.
@Kidfried It’s an 8/10 on IGN, Gamespot, and even pushsquare , the majority of the reception here was that the game was too safe and didn’t offer as much as it should have especially for a supposedly 9th gen game.
nominations don’t mean much if the game doesn’t win . it didn’t win a single one .
@nomither6 You said it wasn't a "GOTY contender", but it was, it was in direct competition for game of the year (and many more categories). It was a major contender, whether it won or not.
You made an important part out of how it wasn't a GOTY contender, and now suddenly it doesn't mean anything anymore.
" It’s an 8/10 on IGN, Gamespot, and even pushsquare" Now you're just being selective. It's got a 90 on Metacritic on average. You just pick out the 3 outlets that you agree with to support a claim that "most people" think it's an 8/10.
It's fine if you don't think it's a 9/10 game or a game contender, but... just state that as a personal opinion, is my point.
@Kidfried wasn’t game of the year contender as in - i , and some others, didn’t think it was worth being a contender let alone GoTY.
I also mentioned 3 websites/sources compared to just one (metacritic) , didn’t you ask me to list sources where it was 8/10?? also, isn’t only mentioning metacritic considered “selective” too?
me asserting the games a 8/10 is indeed my opinion, but has there ever been a GoTY that was an 8/10 ? If it was a 9/10 game it would’ve at least won one
@Kidfried It's really interesting - I think I wrote in another topic that it's the most disappointing objectively excellent game that I've ever played. If I was reviewing it strictly on its merits then I'd have to give in an 8 or a 9 but I never want to play it again and I certainly have no interest in playing another game in the series - so in a review based on my subjective feelings it would get a 3 or a 4. Very strange.
@nomither6 ... Metacritic isn't one site or source. it's an average of ALL major gaming websites. So PushSquare, IGN and GameSpot are all included in there. And still the average is a 90.
And no, I didn't ask you to list sources. I said you made a claim you cannot back up, namely that "most people (except fanboys) think Spider-Man 2 is an 8/10 game". If you name 3 sources, that's just 3 people, not most people.
Also, Push Square gave Sekiro and It Takes Two an 8/10. Both won game of the year at TGA.
I am not arguing that most people think Spider-Man 2 is a game of the year contender. I think trying to make statements about what most people think is useless. It happens on the internet all the time, and always leads to bad discussions. It's not meaningful either.
Who cares if most people think BotW is one of the best games ever (or not), it's still at best an 8/10 to me.
@Max_Headroom According to IGN, the game sold something like 5 million units in its first 10 days on the market.
Its not compulsory to add feedback to a gaming site when you buy a game in fact i have never posted a score in one of these sites and i will not be in a minority, the feedback and scores show its a great and very popular game you are entitled to disagree but please stop with this fanboy nonsense.
@Max_Headroom I'm not the one you're arguing with. I'm just suggesting that seven thousand out of five million (and the rest) isn't necessarily representative as a sample size. Cool your bloody jets - I loathe "fanboys" of every flavour.
Also, 7000 could actually be a very decent sample size for 5.000.000 gamers, statistically speaking. With big numbers like that the quality of your sample group matters more than the size.
For example, imagine if I want to find out what the average US citizen thinks of Biden as a president. I could interview 50% of the country's population, but if I only interview Republicans, my result will be less representative, versus when I would make an effort to make a representative, albeit smaller, sample group.
I think the number of 7.000 could actually be enough (for professional statisticians), if the group was somewhat representative. Metacritic's users are not of course; they're mostly hardcore gamers that engage with the hobby online, versus the more casual gamer who played the game and didn't give it anymore thought than that.
What I'm trying to say is that saying 7.000 is a terrible sample size, doesn't really make a lot of sense. It could have been 1.000.000 and it still wouldn't be representative.
I'm playing it now and it's the kind of game made for the masses. Doesn't take much risks but does what it does competently. I'd argue its not made for massive gaming enthusiasts - its a branded open world game that is designed to get the average person to buy PlayStation.
Also Sony normally wait at least a good few months before DLC or update announcements and often up to a year for release.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
