Anticipation levels for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have reached a point where even a simple 32-second video showing off fast travel can get fans talking. After Marvel's Spider-Man 2 transported you across its New York map in seconds, the upcoming PS5 exclusive looks set to do similar with load times no longer than roughly three seconds. Square Enix has put out a quick clip demonstrating the feature, which sees Cloud and co make it from one eastern corner to somewhere up northwest in record time.
The video is in Japanese so it's impossible to tell what the locations are without a translation, but the tweet goes on to explain you can fast travel to specific bases like cities and Chocobo stops. Therefore, you can't fast travel to literally any point on the map like in the experience out of Insomniac Games, but you won't be waiting long to get to the locations that are on offer. The example in the video takes control away for roughly three seconds, and throws up a black screen with a loading icon in the bottom-right corner.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releases for PS5 next month on 29th February 2024, and was voted the most anticipated PS5 game of 2024 here on Push Square. Are you excited for it? Let us know in the comment below.

Got a good feeling about this game
Anyone else worried with the open world aspect of the game? I quite enjoyed the first parte because it was really more straightforward with a few not so large open sections.
@AFCC I didn't mind that Remake was linear but it felt like a series of really boring corridors at times. I think some more exploration could be a good thing, as long as the maps aren't needlessly large.
@AFCC
Nah will still be linear, happy it will have more nooks and crannies to explore though
I just feel like this game is going to be insanely good.
Much like others, I’ve just got a great feeling about this game. It just gives me warm feelings with everything I see.
This game is looking and sounding way better than part one.
Can’t wait!!! I’m glad it’s more open and it also makes sense. Leaving Midgar and first running around the world map in the original FFVII is one of my fav gaming memories as a child. It was the first time I’d experienced a world that big with the choice of where to go.
Also, funny story. As FFVII was the first RPG my brothers and I had ever played we used a guide from one of the PlayStation magazines back in the day. They had titled the world map section of the guide ‘part 2’ and we’d also never played a multi disc game before either… so once we read that we immediately took the first disc out and put the second one in. Needless to say our game wouldn’t load any of the games areas after that and we didn’t know why.
The only thing I don't like about this game is that it isn't out yet.
Was planning on getting through a game or two in my backlog before playing this, but now seriously rethinking that.
Already got this on pre-order, looking forward to playing.
@AFCC Considering OG FF7 was open world, this is more faithful than having the closed pathways. Makes it easier to avoid side quests if you want while also catering to those who want to digest everything in between the linear story like before.
@Camlambelot The wait for the definite version of ff7 remake combining everything together into a single game will be longer.
Pretty much the only must play coming this year.
@AFCC I dont think so tbh, the open world sounds like something FF15 wanted to be but just didnt have the time to do so. Sounds very promising from the gameplay weve seen too!
Everything I see about this game just gets me more hyped. So happy I've booked 9 days off work to play it.
Honestly, the fast load times has been something that’s impressed me about FF7R and FFXVI. Both can bring you from your PS5 Home Screen to gameplay within a couple seconds. Faster than most first party games, tbh.
I mean, this is pretty good but it seems roughly in line with expectations for exclusive games on these systems, and not necessarily noteworthy? It's nothing compared to something like Ghost of Tsushima for example, which had roughly 6 seconds fast travel on a system as limited as the PS4, and a second or less on the PS5.
It's a pass for me because I have a burnout for open world games.
Why is this note worthy though? Its just fast travel with a decent load time...at this stage I'd expect nothing less, don't get ne wrong I'm hyped af for this and can't wait but this is just pointless info
The big open world is just replacing the big open world map... So instead of trundling around as tiny cloud we trundle as big cloud!
Seriously though, it is looking great.
So standard PS5 loading then. lol
Except unlike Spider-man 2 there is a 4 second load screen AND the NPC fade in after you arrive. This is in fact BEHIND the tech curve.
What on Earth am I supposed to be impressed by? This gen has really struggled to do anything exciting.
@AFCC I would be more worried if the open world wasn't there considering a big aspect of the OG game is the open world.
I feel like this game is gonna be something special.
N.i.c.e. thats really fast.and impressive.final fantasy 7 rebirth is going to be amazing.word up son
That's very convenient. I am getting used to these features and I feel like loading times will make older generations of hardware feel really dated in retrospect.
As far as this game is concerned I am more and more excited at every glimpse of it! Currently playing Crisis Core Reunion to prepare for it
I just cannot wait to stretch my legs and really explore this time. The aspect I disliked about Remake the most was the utterly vapid sections of corridors, switches, ladders, lowering and raising things (moving those robot hand things was the worst), that really sucked the joy out of the game for me.
This looks very much the opposite!
And it can be even faster in the day one release
Fast, but nothing beats the presentation in Spider-Man 2’s fast travel. That zoom in effect from the map directly in to game play is so neat.
@AFCC I'm sure it's like the original. "Open" areas that are linearly arranged to allow for proper story progression.
I loved the original, but a Final Fantasy game needs towns and exploration and dungeons and so on.
@AFCC yes I agree and came here to say this. There seems to be a weird thing going on with game reviewers on this stuff. Fast travel and loads of POIs = terrible, Bad, and Ubisoftian clutterfest in most reviews. I think it’s okay personally but I can already anticipate the “wow 100 bandit camps to clear, really Square!?!?”
I am excited for the game but ordinarily fast travel or horses/mounts, is short for “we made a big map you won’t want to spend much time roaming.”
@knowles2 that's going to be a beautiful day
@Xbox_Dashboard yeah, all seems quiet at the moment bar any surprises. This, like a dragon and Eiyuden Chronicles are the only must buys for me at the moment
Why is anyone surprised? Fast travel in Tsushima is less than a second. Anywhere to anywhere in about 0.5 sec.
