I played through Final Fantasy IV (Android) earlier this year. It's a port of the DS version, and I really enjoyed it (a real contender for my favorite game I've played this year). I had actually played it back on the GBA, but this was my first time beating it (chickened out and stopped playing on GBA when I got to the moon, lol).
My first FF game was FFX on the PS2, and though I haven't played it in years, I'd still say I'd rank it as one of my favorite games of all time (yes, I even like the sappy love story).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@RR529: I can't get back into FFX, I loved it on release and cleared it 2 or 3 times but going back there's hardly anything I enjoy about it! Can see why others like it, though.
@SteveButler2210: Beat Seymour Flux last night after 4 hours of grinding. Finally I can now complete the game!!

@kyleforrester87: I like it still, what don't you like the most?
For me its the crazy fast random battles followed by the lack of mini games to break up the constant forwards motion of the game.

@themcnoisy: so weird, for me the battles seem really slow paced! I've been playing a lot of Bravely Default and you can crank the battles up to 4x speed. I tend not to look at the characters and just focus on the character stats and menus and blitz through the battles - of course I run important battles at 1x speed.
Coupled with swapping out characters constantly I just find it a bit of a bore. Fed up with Bringing Lulu out to use magic on flans, Auron to hit rock types, Wakka flying... Urgh just seems a bit basic! Doesn't help that I'm not really keen on any of the characters I suppose.
To be fair I know the pace quickens later in the game when you've unlocked more skills and customised your characters a little more.
@kyleforrester87: Use the international grid it allows the change from the standard grid based on your characters class to go anywhere you want.

@themcnoisy: Yeah I do but the battles, at least more toward the beginning of the game, do require you to have a mixture of everything so whether Lulu is my mage or Tidus I'm going to need black magic regardless. I get what you're saying though, I prefer the flexibility of something like the materia system though.
As I said though, at the end of the day it probably comes down to me just not really liking the characters of X and it's world
@kyleforrester87: I like Auron and the Al Bhed. Some of the ideas and the focus on a pilgrimage and sacrifice are pretty deep. I enjoy 10. But then again I prefer 8 over 7 and 9. But my lust for stats is covered in the international grid and al bhed conversations. Tidus is a terrible main character, Khimari is a weak other species character (compared to Fran or Cait Sith), Wakka is a weak right hand man character (compared to Barrett and snow) Lulu is pretty strong female character (up there with fang and garnet) and some of the invisible statisticly run stuff us brilliant like the character and gf relationship gauges which I had no idea about until my last play through. But with Tidus, Wakka, Khimari and Yuna all probably worst in class it doesn't help. Seymour is a great enemy, clever and conniving. But the characters are rubbish.

X is my favourite. I really enjoyed the remaster, which I played on my vita. I love the strategy of the battle system and switching characters in and out of battle. Later in the game that wasn't really necessary though and Yuna actually became my strongest character for a long time. I think my experience was soured a little because of the amount of grinding I did to complete the sphere grid late in the game in order to platinum it and be powerful enough for the dark aeons. I defeated Seymour in one hit but stalled because I wanted to listen to all of his awesome battle music.

@mookysam: Ok 👌 I love 8 - played it almost every year since it was brought out. They are all boss 6-10 are the best series of games ever, possibly the best 5 games in a row of that quality and ground breaking things going on we will ever see.

@themcnoisy: I really liked the junction system in 8 and how flexible it made developing the party. The game had some really cool moments. The train sticks in my mind as being particularly cool and also the assassination attempt!
I think all the PS1 Final Fantasy games are great but I've enjoyed the series as a whole. I loved how much 9 was like a fairy tale. And 7 is really special. Of the older games 4 is still an easy game to go back to and replay because it's relatively short. It's actually the one I've completed the most times!
