We already knew that Ubisoft was plotting a 2024 launch for its open world sci-fi shooter Star Wars Outlaws, but a since-edited post on a Disney Parks blog may have nailed down more precisely when we can expect to visit a galaxy far, far away. Multiple outlets, including IGN, noticed the original blurb referenced a “late this year” release window for the title – but that line’s since been edited to a more neutral “in 2024”.
None of this is all that surprising really: we certainly didn’t expect this ambitious outing before summer, and a brand as big as Star Wars is generally always going to skew more towards the holidays anyway. Also, it remains to be seen whether Ubisoft Massive will even be able to realise this ambitious project by then: we imagine a delay into 2025 isn’t entirely out of the realms of possibility at this point.
Whenever it releases, though, we know fans are itching to check out the title. You voted it all the way up into second on our Most Anticipated PS5, PS4 Games of 2024 poll, and it was only beaten by the all-conquering presence of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. With that game due out in February, expect Star Wars Outlaws to dominate the spotlight entirely as we tiptoe deeper into the year.

Mad that it came second in the Most Anticipated Games of 2024 list… having said that I do like the look of it.
Modern day Disney, Ubisoft open world... Are people actually excited for this?
Doubt it will be before 2025
The majority of my excitement for this title stems from it not being developed by EA.
Disney need to bite the bullet and develop games in-house - or, adopt the WB Games model of buying a decent studio and working more closely with them.
Seems to me, its too easy for Disney to take a back seat on these games and we will never get anywhere near the potential unless those that own and manage the brand are fully invested.
Think about how much hidden lore there could and should be in this Outlaws game. Now think about the process Ubisoft devs would have to go through with Disney execs to secure it in the game. And now realise how much will not be in this game as a result.
@PixelDragon Cutting back on your game time for whatever reason will make your game time far more enjoyable.
Playing fewer games for longer has been my approach for a few years now and it's much more enjoyable than frantically trying to keep up with everything like I was doing in my 20s and early 30s.
One of the plus sides is, when an open world game like Outlaws comes along that I want to play, I don't already have open world fatigue - I've heard people compare Outlaws to Assassins Creed. More of the same but with lasers.
I don't play Assassins Creed so I won't notice.
@inconspicuoususernam I know I am, but I'm a big Star Wars fan so, I'll most likely consume whatever they feed me. However, I do have Assassin's Creed fatigue so, I really hope this game isn't going to be too similar.
@inconspicuoususernam
On paper I shouldn't be excited, but the preview looks so damn good
@PixelDragon spot on Sir!👍🏻 I’m right there with ya. Only game at weekends. Game buying also 1 or two games a year (patience for sales is my thing). Also have a backlog/replay pile so new games not a priority.
"Later this year" Problem solved with the addition of one letter.
But i'm interested in what PushSquare knows? They keep saying they don't expect to see it until 2025, what insider knowledge have you snaffled? Spill the beans. Who you been hacking? 😁
@PixelDragon oohhh first book! Interesting. iirc you are uk based , same as me. Keep me posted would like to read it as would my wife. Anything book and she is there😂
Removed - unconstructive feedback
To be honest, if a fairly major video game just gets given a release year, it'll probably end up being released late that year due to internal delays etc.
@inconspicuoususernam I find ubisofts open world games, to be very entertaining ,valhalla was superb
@Fyz306903 true, or they quietly push it into the start of the following year
This might be the 1st star wars game since force unleashed that I actually like
This might sound extremely keen, but I hope there's a tie-in book or comic series.
I want a online mode. Think GTA but in a star wars universe.
I’m a MASSIVE Star Wars fan, and played Odyssey & Valhalla for, literally, hundreds of hours. That being said…this game has zero appeal to me. The gameplay footage I’ve seen just doesn’t look…fun.

@PixelDragon Sir, I wish you all the best for your future endeavours 👍🏻. Keep me posted😁
@inconspicuoususernam I'm more excited for this than a Call of Duty 29 (or whatever number they are on). I am as perplexed about people getting as excited about those as you are for this. This game is in the genre I play the most. Being excited for something doesn't mean it will be good and, yeah, Ubisoft being atttached makes me a little concerned but guess we'll see. Still excited to see what comes of it.
@Mad001
I played the game and not sure what mind virus you are referring to. They went through a wormhole and defeated 2 fallen Jedi but I don't remember a mind virus
How is star wars dead? lmao
Jedi Survivor was a commercial success..
We talking about just video games or the franchise as a whole?
2025…I don’t think any game developer wants to release in that year…..gta6 will delay a lot of release’s.
