Video game streaming giant Twitch is cutting 500 jobs, reducing its workforce by around 35%. That's according to a new report from Bloomberg, and along with the 1800 layoffs already planned over at Unity Software, it marks a grim start to 2024 in the games space.
In 2023, the Amazon-owned video platform suffered through two other rounds of reductions, accounting for about 400 roles combined. All told, that's almost 1000 jobs lost in under a year at the company alone, something the Bloomberg report attributes to "concerns over losses" and the departure of several top executives. Neither Twitch nor Amazon have responded to the report, but Bloomberg expects a formal announcement could arrive as soon as Wednesday (today).
In December, Twitch announced that it would cease service in Korea, citing untenable operation costs. The company insisted it was a situation unique to the region, but perhaps the problem is more dire than previously anticipated. As always, our best to everyone affected, and we hope the economic situation in the industry stabilizes soon.

Twitch has already lost its charm.......It has turned into something else
How the mighty have fallen
@anon_pel222 what did it turn into 👀….i still use it for games
35% of the workforce is horrible. Wishing the best to all affected!
@nomither6 A porn site from what I can tell.
@nomither6 go through recent news abt twitch..... You'll know.....
Yeah that sucks for those losing their job. Hope you all find employment with more enjoyment.
@Grimwood tell me mate....
who's moving from X To threads ?
Who's moving from YouTube to xyz platform?
I'm not telling abt moving to another platform. I'm speaking abt pools and H*t tub streams on Game Streaming Platform....i dont think you don't know anything bud....
Want to save money? Stop giving the biggest idiots on the platform multi million dollar contracts and share that wealth a little more evenly. Streamers are leaving the platform like nobody's business because they can't afford to stay on there any longer.
Ahhh yes... Jeff Bezos / Amazon.
If you can afford to spend billions to build rockets / put yourself in space for your own ego, you can damn well afford to support Twitch and its staff.
@anon_pel222 yea i know what you’re talking about i was just being silly
Bezos makes millions while scrapping workers.
Shame.
But,but think of the poor Hot Tub bikini babe's trying to flog their bath water & have an accidental wardrobe malfunction & have noone to overturn their "unjust" ban?!😋
Probably the reality is the scary prospects like say an energy, mobile phone or internet or similar provider where they start tapping into A.I. Bot "support" tech meaning when you have an issue your prospects of getting an actual human being to resolve it is sadly decreasing!😕
Amazon ain’t stopping at Twitch, so it might be as much an Amazon thing as a Twitch content thing.

Honestly it’s cutting the bloat it sucks that people lost their job , but they have too many people doing certain jobs , and what happens when there is little to no work to pay them all? It’s the reality these days
They made £9.9 billion in profit but needed to cut 30,000 jobs.... 🤔
@UltimateOtaku91 Amazon made 9.9 billion in profit in dollars, so it's slightly less in sterling... BUT and this is the really sick part... that 9.9 billion is only for July-September. 3 months!
@Robocod I envy women without a sense of shame. Imagine getting dumb simps to pay for your bath water and undergarments!
