2024 could and probably should be a big year for Sony and PlayStation. This is the PS5's fourth year on the market, and although it's widely accepted that the current console generation was forced into a slow start by the pandemic, this sort of midpoint is typically where Sony's systems begin to flourish.
So, with all of this in mind, we wanted to sit down and have a think about what it is that we actually want from PlayStation over the next twelve months (or thereabouts). We've broken things up into specific talking points, and as always, we want to hear your opinions once we're done yapping.
PlayStation Studios Show and Tell
Let's not beat around the bush: 2023 was a disappointingly dry year for PlayStation Studios. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was obviously the headline act, but beyond the Spidey sequel, Sony relied heavily on third party deals, and barely spilled a bean on what's in store from its key first party developers. We simply need to know more about what PlayStation Studios are cooking up for 2024 and beyond.
Sucker Punch. Bend Studio. Bluepoint Games. Team Asobi. These are teams that we haven't heard a peep from in what feels like an age. Even Naughty Dog, despite dropping The Last of Us Part II Remastered later this month, is shrouded in secrecy. It's not strictly true, but it really does feel like Insomniac Games has been carrying the PS5 up until now — but Sony's most prolific developer won't be back in the spotlight until it's ready to ship Marvel's Wolverine.
Of course, it's unrealistic to expect major updates from every studio this year — but the PlayStation faithful do need something to look forward to from Sony's high profile outfits.
Which neatly leads us to...
A Proper PlayStation Showcase
We were almost sold on the idea that Sony would give us a big old showcase in 2023, what with the arrival of a new PS5 model and all, but the Japanese giant settled for a smattering of State of Play broadcasts instead. The problem, though, is that those updates barely touched upon PlayStation Studios. In fact, most of them came off as contractual obligations, rather than hype-fuelled events. Remember that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League State of Play? Sheesh.
Maybe we're well and truly past the point of having a proper showcase — maybe that's just not how PS5-era Sony conducts itself. But if you're anything like us, you miss having E3-esque events to look forward to. We can't help but think that Sony, at its bullish best, would jump at the chance to parade its projects before the world. We can dream!
New Boss, New PlayStation?
Jim Ryan, the man who's been PlayStation's president and CEO since 2019, announced his retirement back in September. Ryan officially steps down in March, and a successor has yet to be named (although we're sure Sony's got it all worked out behind the scenes). Now, you would assume that Ryan's replacement will, generally speaking, follow through with the company's current plans. PlayStation's such a colossal entity that sudden and dramatic change simply isn't an option — it'd be like trying to U-turn a truck that's travelling at 100mph.
However, it's still likely that the new boss will offer a different perspective on PlayStation, both as a brand and as a business. It's entirely possible that they'll want to alter the company's approach — at least on a surface level. PlayStation's the market leader, and while that means it doesn't have to try quite as hard as its immediate competitors, there's much to be said for maintaining momentum when your console's roughly midway through its life cycle. The new boss might just kick things up a notch — you never know.
What's the Deal with PlayStation's Live Service Plan?
We all know that Sony's been investing a lot of resources into live service projects — games in the mold of Fortnite and like — that can provide consistent profit across years and years of player engagement. That's really where the money is these days — but it's a ridiculously tough market to crack.
What do we actually know about PlayStation's live service plan, though? The Last of Us' reportedly massive multiplayer project was unceremoniously cancelled last year so that Naughty Dog can concentrate on its single-player adventures. Many will consider that a win, but we're talking about a game that was years in the making — god only knows how much money was sunk into its development.
And then there's Fairgame$, which was, to be frank, sh*t upon when it was first revealed back in May. Meanwhile, Bungie — the studio Sony acquired for $3.6 billion in order to spearhead its live service efforts — has been on a downward spiral with Destiny 2. Even more unfortunate, the ex-Halo developer was recently hit with a wave of layoffs — sparking increased speculation over whether the outfit should be leading PlayStation's live service push to begin with.
From the outside looking in, the whole thing comes across as a bit of a mess. It's been reported that Sony's sticking to its live service plans despite a series of internal delays, but we feel like some kind of insight into PlayStation's current approach could go a long way.
Potential PS Plus Improvements
Sony raised the price of PS Plus subscriptions last year, but the service has remained largely the same in terms of what it offers. Subscribers aren't getting more games, or better games, it's fair to say, but they're paying more than ever. In truth, PS Plus could probably do with a slight rethink in 2024 — if only to keep those plateauing subscriber numbers steady.
From our perspective, PS Plus Premium — the service's most expensive tier — has always struggled to justify its existence. It was largely sold on the back of retro game promises — the revival of classic PlayStation titles, fully playable on PS5 and PS4. But the reality is that Premium's catalogue leaves much to be desired. Old games are essentially drip-fed month to month — and questionable in terms of selection — while other perks, like limited PS5 and PS4 title trials, hardly feel like worthwhile incentives.
Having said all that, it's often hard to argue with the additional value that PS Plus Extra brings to the table. A very broad catalogue of current and last-gen games is up for grabs, and if you happen to be new to the PlayStation ecosystem, you're pretty much set for who knows how long.
Still, PS Plus is perhaps at a bit of a crossroads. We're not convinced that Sony would alter things so soon after it overhauled the whole service to include two new subscription tiers, but there's definitely untapped potential in the model.
Sony Needs to Sell the PS5 Pro
Heavily rumoured for release in the latter half of 2024, the PS5 Pro should have Sony springing into action in the relatively near future. Again, we're into the fourth year of the PS5's life, but in some ways, it feels as though the current-gen system has only just arrived. PlayStation's first party machine is yet to really kick into gear, and so we're left wondering whether the PS5 Pro will be a tougher sell than a lot of people think.
Obviously, the PS5's doing incredibly well for itself in spite of our quibbles, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Pro will follow suite. This thing needs to marketed hard and heavy — because people like us need to be convinced that it's a worthy evolution. What we're trying to say is that Sony can't just roll out a blog post two weeks from release!
PlayStation's PSVR2 Roadmap
Sony has a history of lacking commitment to some of its more... specialised products. PSVR2 has games, and it's a great piece of kit, but it'd be nice to know if more projects like Horizon Call of the Mountain are on the, er, horizon. Boundary-breaking software is what makes this kind of platform take off — and you would like to think that PlayStation's studios are in a position to deliver.
Now that we've had our say, we want to know what you want to see from Sony and PlayStation in 2024. Vote in our poll, and then spare no details in the comments section below.

Tell us what your first party studios are doing, how you’re improving the sub services (in other words, justifying the price hike), and begin caring about the fan base in general. Throw in what FromSoft is doing with you as well for good measure. That is all.
Actual communication would be a very small start.
I just want a good idea on what Sony is putting out for the next year or two. We all know Venom is coming so get on and announce it, tell us what ND is making next, tell us what Bluepoint is making and so on. I want to know what the future is like for PS5 and not have to rely on leaks and rumours for info.
Well obviously games are the most important thing. A new media molecule game probably excites me the most but that's unlikely.
Maybe Ghost of Tsushima sequel? I thought the first was good but not great. But I am a big fan of Sucker Punch and I dig the setting.
A God of war game on the scale of Miles Mirales could be cool if it was led by Kratos.
I want Sony to strengthen their connection to their Japanese roots, spend somewhat less on massively expensive AAA games and get more experimental again. Take on some risk.
And of course be more in touch with the gaming community.
Just tell us what some, doesn't have to be all, PS studios are cooking up, their next game for 2024 and 2025. What are the new game of Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios (Cory's team)?
Their new games have more than 3 years of development by now, it's time we know what they are.
PlayStation is publishing a huge amount this year, TLOU2R, Helldivers 2, MLB 24, Lost Soul Aside, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Concord, Convallria, maybe Spiderman 2 DLC.
Most of these titles we know nothing of really, no marketing, no hype, just trailers that go for a couple of minutes.
2024 I would like them to be more transparent, I know games are taking longer to develop, and the pull to live service has delayed some studios, but I would still like to know what they're cooking, a big showcase is needed (pretend the 2023 one didn't happen).
I like what microsoft is doing with the developers direct, something like that would be appreciated, where we get a deep dive into 4-5 games.
Hopefully the new CEO will take it in a better direction
Stellar Blade
And a big Astrobot game
Let's start with some communication on anything in this list:
https://twitter.com/Zuby_Tech/status/1742565400724803831
Really want to hear more from the first party studios in regards to their projects to get us more hyped. 2023 was really dry compared to previous years.
A revamped Playstation Showcase needs to be on the cards. The current showcase layout is pretty terrible.
Hoping the new CEO takes the company in a direction that's similar to when Shawn Layden was at the helm. I feel we had a plethora of unique releases when Layden was running the show.
Also I don't care about PS Plus anymore after the price hike since I plan on letting it lapse next spring due to the price hike without any reasoning for it.
Unless the PS5 Pro absolutely blows me away, I plan on sticking with my release day PS5. I've been playing a lot more games on my PC nowadays so I feel I don't have much of a need for a mid-gen refresh.
Hope peeps that bought a PSVR 2 get more love and I don't really care about Sony's live-service ideas.
A new Killzone and themes for PS5
No. More. Live. Service.
I belive that in the second sentence you mean PS5?
Better communication, an actual showcase to show the future of first/second party, and for them to take plus premium seriously (ps2/PS3 native emulation).
@Sergo We're living in last-gen! Thanks for the spot.
No more cross gen-games! Time to start showing what the PS5 can actually do
I just want a roadmap. I want to know what is there to look forward to.
I'm probably one of the rare few who are fine with Sony's first party studios staying completely silent until they are near completion and almost ready to launch. I've always got plenty to play and don't need to know about anything more than several months away.
My only hope is they continue to let their studios make the games they want to make and are passionate about creating.
A road map of first party projects
I want Sony to lean into Asian developers more. PlayStation Studios is very anemic in this regard and it shouldn't be. They have a lot of work still to do to offset Microsoft snatching Bethesda and then they have to counter Activision-Blizzard now, too.
I wanted some PS5 exclusives brooooo
Jin sakai cape next to jim ryan mouth is funny.because PlayStation have been quiet for a while.announce more studio acquisitions.more games.more ps1 and ps2 and ps3 games.revival of retro series.etc.word up son
Hoping Sonys upcoming games can kick off this gen! Spider man, GoW etc all are just iterations of what was awesome during PS4.
Let's get some new PS5 defining experiences!
PSVR2 price to get slashed in half.
I want then to communicate more I feel the past year or 2 they have been quiet skipping events and doing there own thing to think to my knowdge I don’t know what titles they are releasing for 2024 from first party. Thank god for third party being stacked. But I like PlayStation for the exclusives. With their first year I think they have like 4 or something in the year. That would be ideal. I know they said they working on some new emulator for classics so hopefully that’s going to be up and running soon so they can start releasing loads of games to the premium. Ps plus expired today don’t really need it for the next 3 months due to the third party games
More emphasis on native ps5 games and less cross gen parity. Let the ps5 flex its muscles properly as I don't think we have seen what it's truly capable of once the shackles of the ps4 have been severed..
@ShogunRok GREAT article man this was super well written. Agree with every single point.
Here’s hoping the next CEO takes a page out of Laydens book. He wasn’t perfect but there was so much transparency and we actually got what we wanted a lot of the time, that was pivotal in building them into the giant they are now. I think almost everything else on the list will come with that.
What I think is going to happen:
-PS5Pro is revealed and released this year.
-Stellar Blade is this year November release.
-PS will announce something releasing this year second half, most likely GOW remaster.
-ND or/and Santa Monica will announce their new IPs and at least one will be sifi. Cory made a lot of space related comments after saying he was working in something different than GOW, there were rumors of ND going fantasy (I would love that) but there were more about they also going sifi.
What I want:
-To see the plan for the future of their studios
-More commitment to smaller games
-Sony to acquire something japanese. If it happens it will be something small (no Capcom, Bandai or even SE) but I think there is a chance with KoeiTecmo, it is small compared with other big names and the relationship with Sony is stronger than ever, Sony has for the first time ww publishing rights for one of their games (KT published the Niohs in Japan) and together they bought 1/5 of Akatsuki, looking almost too intentional.
It probably won't happen but I think if Sony makes a push they can get it. Personally Ninja Gaiden was the reason why I got an original xbox when I was a kid, it as a PlayStation ip would be FANTASTIC for me.
A change of direction from the new CEO, such as actually conversing with the PS population would be good! We need another Tretton or Layden (or the original!)
After that, I think we need to see some mind-blowing stuff from PS Studios as so far, I don't the entrance fee for 'next gen' has been worth it.
100 quid PSN credits would do.
All of the above option for me please! And Hi-Fi Rush!!!!!
@Colour Thanks for reading it!
It'll be really interesting to see who gets the nod for CEO and what their background is. Got the impression Jim was a steady, experienced hand (especially in terms of business), so I wonder if Sony will opt for someone who's more flexible.
For me it’s a greater commitment to getting flat games onto PSVR2, as that is by far my preferred way to experience gaming. Plus allowing us to watch our 3D movies in the headset.
Beyond that, a rollback of censorship policies inflicted on us in 2018 would be great.
Plus a greater diversity in the first party catalogue to fill the gap Elder Scrolls et al have left after the great MS buyout years.
Personally I'd like to see them show us what new single player games they have coming over the next 12-24 months, I don't care if they are two years away just get us hyped. Although I am eagerly anticipating the Horizon online games reveal.
For Playstation Plus I'm quite happy with what I got for my money last year with the free monthly games and the Extra tier additions, so more of the same would be great although I wouldn't say no to even more day one indies like with Stray, Tchia and Sea of Thieves.
I would also like to see Sony make some decent acquisitions, someone that's quite known for quality single player games like Square Enix, CD Project Red, Techland or Namco. But also double down on third party exclusives and partnerships like with Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and Silent Hill.
Finally I hope to see what their new tv shows and movies are looking like.
I really want Days Gone 2
Silent Hill games on ps premium
Killzone Games on ps premium
Resistance Games on ps premium
Plus option to vote on games for the month
@Ooccoo_Jr No More Live Service?
They haven't even put any out yet 😂, Give them a chance.
A PSVR2 road map from Sony themselves, they actually had a strong start but we've heard nothing since and if the PS5 Pro is a thing, I'd like to hear about boosts to framerates for GT7 amd Horizon in VR.
Also we need more Astro Bot
Either Socom 2 Multiplayer Remake or a new Socom faithful to Socom 2.
Better Plus Premium games, give us some of the classics!
More support for VR2.
@ShogunRok Agreed and sometimes you need the firm hand on any business but, unfortunately, hype is what keeps you top of mind. Really hoping to peel the curtain back this year!!
I'm happy with what's slated for 2024 so far, and 6 of these are apparently coming out before April.
But I want Sony to show some 1st party just because the fanbase are starting to become insufferable, lol.
1. Bloodborne 60fps. Hackers did it by changing one line of code apparently. Just do it
2. Aside from Insomniac, what the heck are all other PS Studios doing. Some announcements from first party would be nice.
3. Just announce all the Horizon spin offs already and move on to better game announcements
Actions speak louder than words, so all I need is for them to keep acting as if the all out "live service" push train is being derailed, fairly confident in that one at this point.
I'm expecting a very slow 2024 as they clean up the live service mess and get PS Studios back on track, so stuff like TLOU2 Remastered and maybe some high level remaster/ports from PS3, for example: would love a Ratchet & Clank collection with some under the hood work done for PS5 + full trophy support.
Band aid us with that stuff, give PS Studios some time and then have a big Fall showcase with the giant AAA single player exclusives and presumably PS5 Pro.
Ghost, GoW2 and why not TLOU2 on PC so I can finally ditch the console wars and just Steamdeck it full-time.
None of this is happening. Why should they bother to do anything when the console is still selling regardless? There’s no incentive for them to change.
I would like Sony to release something different like they did with Gravity Rush, Rain , Last Guardian , Locoroco. Maybe it would be good to see the return of Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter. And continue to have Bluepoint do remasters or remakes as they are the best in those (besides Capcom).
An Astrobot game and many announcements. I don't care how far away these games are releasing. Give us news!
A little transperecy. I'm getting beyond tired of not knowing what firstparty games are coming for PS5 and PSVR 2. Less iron wall secrecy would be great.
I said it last year unfortunately, as more than anyone I need some Sony big AAA single player campaign gaming, like, but not Uncharted, last of us, GOW etc. Though I would take an Uncharted 5.
But unfortunately it’s gonna be a quiet year from Sony in house AAA studios in the big single player game front, not including bloody more remasters, is last of us 2 remaster really needed after playing it on the PS4 Pro originally.
I'd like them ditch the live service trash and to open or get some 1st party Japanese Studios that's all I want
Less focus on live service, Nixxes pivot to remastering PS1-3 games for PS5 instead of porting PS4/PS5 games to PC (their Tomb Raider console ports were fantastic) and if PS5 Pro exists there ends up being a big showcase that leans more towards PS Studios to back the system up.
2024 needs to have at least three out of these four major PSVR 2 games on the way:
1) inFamous VR
2) The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 VR
3) Uncharted VR
4) Little Big Planet VR
**If Bethesda can do it with Doom VFR, Sony can do it.
**If Square Enix can do it with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Sony can do it.
**If Bethesda can do it with Skyrim, Sony can do it.
Sony CAN do it. Do it.
—For that matter, I’d also love God of War VR, Warhawk VR, and, heck, how about a new Syphon Filter game in VR? That’d rock!—
@UltimateOtaku91 "They haven't even put any out yet 😂, Give them a chance."
Yeah I'm not letting you or anyone else forget Sony started the generation with the live service mega failure that is Destruction AllStars 😁
@Tecinthebrain But that was a third party game not made by a Sony studio. I'd like to think Sony can make something better than whatever that was.
@OldGamer999 Yeah, Yeah sure. you're not fooling anyone.
I wanna see Xbox fight for every console sale and game pass. The activision deal is done and the supposed reason for Xbox being quiet. So let’s see the action now Microsoft let’s see the console and gamepass deals beating the competition, let’s see the advertising, let’s see the series x get some limelight, let’s go kick some competition arse, let’s see if Microsoft really want to sell consoles and gain Xbox brand momentum and inject some team green in the general publics veins.
@MrMagic lol I'm sensing some serious deja-vu.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah they can say what they want but I honestly think PlayStation's slate still looks better than theirs even without any 1st party added to it.
I have all three systems, and I’ll definitely say that I’ve been investing much much less into PlayStation than previous years. Downgrading from PS plus premium to essential, playing third party games on Xbox mostly due to gamepass (persona 3 reload is hitting that, why wouldn’t I?) and overall just not trusting Sony’s stability. The Pro model is of no interest without games on the current model, and the silence aside from insomniac is just absurd. Spiderman 2’s new game plus will be DOA with the huge delay, as it is likely to launch amidst dragons dogma 2 and FF rebirth.
Ugly picture atm and would love to be shown otherwise
Spider-Man 3! GOTY 2024! 🤣
@NoHope Hell yes to a return of Socom. Man I loved those games and the clan community.
So many studios! It’s been too quiet for too long! There must be “something” on the horizon? I wouldn’t mind a total different approach of what Jim Ryan did in bringing PlayStation games to the public (in a natural way ofc, not because it’s edgy).
I like to see some older IP’s coming back to life (opinions about some of them may have changed). I would really love a new Motorstorm myself! (and a new Ghost OT)
@MrMagic
Of course I want Xbox to succeed and fight.
As a gamer do I want a PlayStation or Xbox monopoly, most definitely not.
The better the competition the better it is for gamers in the end.
If Sony were not crushing Xbox in console and game sales right now, they would be being more proactive towards us gamers.
So yes Xbox and Sony both need to succeed.
I think it’s time we start seeing proper game announcements from the first party studios. I’m especially excited to see what Bend and Sucker Punch have in store. There’s no doubt Ghost of Tsushima 2 will be SP’s focal point, and I think it’s close to time to show or be ready for release. Furthermore, I have a suspicion Housemarque will have an announcement. What I would really like to see is Naughty Dog’s new IP. I feel like there should be substantial progress on whatever it is they are developing — if I remember correctly, they recently said they are working on two new projects.
We really do gotta see something from 1st party here soon. The silence is starting to become deafening.
To be fair though the community kind of brought it upon themselves when everyone complained about seeing the same games at showcase events over and over again. I never minded their approach of laying all the cards on the table early in the PS4 generation personally and I feel like that's why they have become so very very quiet these days.
Quick list:
1. More AAA (non GAAS) epic PS5 exclusive games from PS Studios.
2. Make the PS5 Pro in such a way as to eliminate the effing "choice".... you know the one: either "Quality 4k but at 30FPS" or "Performance (aka crappy graphics) for 60FPS".... "pick your poison" so to speak. I want "Quality 4k @60FPS", period !
3. Bloodborne Remake and Bloodborne 2
4. Reveal what Bluepoint has been working on in those last 3 years since their last release... I realize they're probably hair-deep into an epic project, but an update would be very welcomed
5. DualSense with better battery (yeah... 99,9(9)% chance that's NOT gonna happen , but you know "hope"... she's the last one to die...)
@OldGamer999 completely agree with you, but that's a unpopular opinion here.
@OldGamer999 Yeah and I was born yesterday. 👍
Less (or no) remakes and more original IPs/games. That's all I ask for 2024.
@OldGamer999
Xbox is the best community
Xbox is the best console
Microsoft kick the competitions ass
Sure 😂
@MrMagic
Ok chap whatever you believe.
@Foxx_64740
I’m getting some grief and maybe deserved because of past comments.
But I’ve been with all the consoles since day one.
And others on here are saying the same. Sony haven’t shown anything yet from in house AAA
For 2024 it’s just fact. And yes they make the best AAA story driven games that I can play.
But I believe it will be a quiet year for those type of games big AAA campaign single player from Sony.
All three of the big guns do have a quiet year as developers try to catch up.
I’d like to see Sony have some more variety. Only franchise of theirs that interests me is Ghosts of Tsushima.
@MrMagic
Yes they do have the best community over in pure Xbox. Because they seem chilled if it’s fact.
Yes the series x in my opinion is the better console for a few reasons. Does not mean they have used its power and have the best games.
And yes I think Sony need some crushing to get the best from them, like when they come out of the PS3 to PS4 days and produced some the best ever single player AAA games ever made.
@MrMagic
If you ever go over to pure Xbox I’ve given Microsoft and Xbox a lot more grief and of course the reasons are obvious why.
I definitely want a change in direction. I can't relate to most Playstation characters in 1st party games.
None of them are fun to look at. I want more bright, colorful games.
Stop competing with Xbox and compete with Nintendo!
I'm not gonna comment on what I'm wanting out of them its been said throughout the comments.
My thing i can never wrap my head around is....
After the huge success they had with psvr 1.
Why even bother bringing out a pavr2 when they have pretty much abandoned it.
I understand there are great games for it but why are the ones who developed it, allows it only to work on ps5 and yet completely dismiss it and bring 1 first party game to the table for it.
What was the point
I’m hoping for more transparency and excitement, honestly. Outside of the usual hitters of Square, Capcom, and Sega, 2024 seems empty, but it’s not because it is empty. It’s because there’s no excitement from the brand. There’s been nothing drumming up this year. It all feels muted, but we seriously need hype.
@OldGamer999 You still rambling on lol.
announcements for PS5 and VR2 exclusives that come out in the next 16 months
More enjoyable games and less interactive movies
Honestly just a better showcase please. We didn't get one for like 2 years and then last years was terrible and we may aswell not have had one. Really looking forward to Ronin from Team Ninja
Bloodborne Remaster
& Bloodborne Sequel !!!
A collaboration between Bluepoint & FromSoft would be a dream come true!
@MrMagic
I know and you still replying 😂
@OldGamer999 Yeah I'm in bed falling asleep but then I hear my phone and curiosity gets the the better of me. This time for sure though I'm going to sleep. I've been up for like 23 hours straight so goodnight. 👍🏻
@MrMagic
Have a good sleep fellow gamer, sounds like you need it 😊
Sony needs to emulate Nintendo re showcases- have surprises, and make it pacier
All I want to see is first-party games - preferably good ones! Bring on their Live Service games too! I'm not necessarily interested, but I just want to see what they're working on. It's wild to me that we're 4 years in and the only first-party game I have loved this gen is Returnal!
I'd like a price cut on PSVR 2.
Not much to be honest. I'll get FF7 rebirth when it comes out. And for the rest of the year, probably just be working through the backlog from last few years. Have been gaming solidly and still not even gotten to Hogwarts legacy, gow Ragnarok, resident evil 4. There are too many good games nowadays
just want the old days of PS2/PS3 variety and sony flair back with the same quality/budget of PS4 exclusives. Give content for all players , sony has a legacy , stop just riding TLOU and deep narratives in third person, i’m so over cinematic in video games. bring back themes , communities , etc that really bring the online community of psn together for those that are into online & social interaction. bring back web browser it was super useful especially on a big TV was nice , bring back the timeline of friend activities and new clips they shared . they really had it right with the ps4 and for some reason just took everything away .
A playstation.com website that remembers we've logged in on desktop browsers would be nice for 2024. Other websites have done this for decades. It's not hard, Sony. Those annoying captchas for 2FA enabled accounts are completely unnecessary too.
There was some fond memories made with Sony’s games and to be honest I’ve think we had a bigger first party famine than we had after the ps3 launched. What really makes PlayStation so great are its first party games.. always has been and always will.
Socom would be a needed shooter and maybe make an fps option to help counter Call of Duty. An extraction team based game with missions would be so much with other teams fighting you. Like DMZ.
A Warhawk remake. One of the my all time favorite games was the PS3 title. Not Starhawk.. even though the build and battle was fun. There is a big hole missing and it sure is this game.
A proper Resistance reboot would be nice sometime down the line.
But for something close.. please.. I want to see a Ghost of Tsushima 2.. that series has become one of my all time favorites.
I want a a PS5 exclusive game that doesn't feel like it takes place in the NDCU(Naughty Dog Cinematic Universe). Nothing against Naughty Dog, I love the Uncharted series but a couple years ago, almost every Sony exclusive felt like they were trying to be like Naughty Dog, even God of War, which is my favorite franchise(mainly the PS2 and PS3 era) feels like it's been Naughty Dog-ified.
Why would anyone want a PS5 Pro? There are barely any PS5 games released and we’re 4 years in…
A native portable after the success of the playstation portal! 😊
Good article.
With each talking point you raised painting a negative light it just goes to show how much Sony has dropped the ball.
We need more VR!
The same thing I wanted at launch of the next gen consoles. Around 5 to 10 exclusive games. Because those are the only reason to have a specific platform.
We are 4 years into the PS5?!
I would like Sony to acknowledge that the PSVR2 exists and port over Astro Bot to it!
Didn't expect such a low percent for "ps plus improvements"
Ps5 pro is it really needed though?
For what slighter larger ssd, 1.1 second faster load WoW...and probably sound like a jet fighter taking off
No thanks on the ps5 pro, more effort on showcases and making ps plus better
Knack 3 that is all
@KundaliniRising333
Yes, it was great! Third person, one life, great maps. No ***** bling bling weapons or futuristic crap. millitary team shooter.
I think Sony will not have a major first party game in 2024 and that's why they will want to make things look good for the future. As a result, they will definitely anounce some new games even though in the form of a teaser trailer.
Just a reason to like them again to be honest.
Massively changed as a company from the PS3 and 4 golden age.
Been nothing but nickel and diming recent years.
Just remaster Wipeout 2097. I will pay for PS plus essential solely for that game! The classic games on there at the moment are a poor selection
I mainly want Astrobot
You shouldn't call a studio "prolific" when it released 2.5 games in 5 years.
Nah, I don't think they need to go hard on the PS5 Pro at all. The PS4 Pro didn't do that well, by all accounts, and was only adopted by the super-fans. I'll get one for sure, because I like playing at faster frame rates and if I can do so without having to make compromises to resolution or ray tracing, more's the better. Most users play on quality mode and don't care about frame rates (don't ask me why, I can't explain it). The base-PS5 is still a fantastic machine for them. Sony knows its most hardcore audience will pick up a Pro model without any advertising as they'll find out about it through sites like this one.
THey need to stop the price disparities between regions too ,no need for EU to be paying extra from literally no reason.
Also, get the Bloodbourne remake announced ASAP
While I see a lot of people want a showcase simple fact is if the games are not ready to show, they are not ready to show.
I'd rather wait until a game is nearly ready than seeing it 2, 3, 4, 5... 10+ years before it will release.
What I want? To see what is likely coming out THIS year. Perhaps with one, at most two teases for the future.
@Fill3rup_
Remaster is more than enough.
PSVR2, PS5 Pro and a great Showcase from the Sony of 7 years ago.
@Stragen8 absolutely agree. Sony been playing it real safe this gen, horizon, remasters of last of us pt1 and pt2, spiderman 2, ratchet and clank, gran turismo nothing really new or original
More pc ports, more psvr2 games, that's about it
I want them to announce a cancellation to the live service initiatives and stop messing around with that rubbish. No one wants it.
Some more day one releases on PS Plus Extra to justify the price hike. They don’t need to be AAA they just need to be decent games or something a little different like Stray, Humanity and Tchia.
I want a Silent Hill 2 release date
I want to see some non-sequel, non-GaaS, non-remastered IP from Sony first-party studios.
That's really about it.
Nextgen WipeOut and PSVR2 compatible as well. Come on Sony!
I want to see fully fledged PSVR2 titles built using existing PS Studios game universes. Oh and Alyx whenever you’re ready…
I just straight up do not agree with the idea that it's better for a platform and its developers to just not say anything about their games up until a year or less before release. It's never really been like that, and I actually like the little hyped-up teaser trailers that progress into a bigger trailer that then progress into gameplay clips and then onto a hyped and informed release. it builds excitement for sure, but it also creates a knowledge base of what's to come. you would not have all of these people rightfully bashing Sony if we knew games were on the horizon that weren't just live service trash. Hell, most of those aren't even named.
It's really getting old to see more and more hardware releases, controllers, slim consoles, lame faceplates being pushed, clearly cashing in due to the strong console sales. Yet, a complete radio silence on meaningful game announcements or any PR aside from shareholder meeting info regarding an ill-fated live service game focus.
Sony could really drop the ball this year if they maintain the same ghosting policy. Xbox has a showcase coming up with three hotly anticipated games that were at least friggin announced years ago now....... (hell blade, Indiana Jones, and avowed). I'd much rather have announcements that were still years away from release rather than nearly 3 years of nothing. zero announcements, zero PR, for anything other than third party releases. Even if they really Fed up and perhaps have some inner turmoil going on amongst studios because of their greed driven live service push, say something.
Even if projects are further out because of it, some form of roadmap is better than no roadmap.
@MattBoothDev the point with GAAS is it will provide the revenue for more triple A’s. And you say no one wants them, tell that to the millions who play them. Personally I don’t but way more play Fortnite or apex legends compared to single player games bro
I don't ask for much. I just want another Infamous game, the infamous games remastered, and a new All-Star Battle Royale. That's all lol
I only care about Sony's PC output. Couldn't care less about their PlayStation consoles.
Some Sony games that aren't 3rd person open world /semi open world rpg lites over and over again would be nice. I love Sony first party games but they've become very samey
@nomither6 @zekepliskin Gotta agree on the miserable PS5 UI. It's 5hite.
I boot up the old Pro and am greeted by the PS2 startup sounds and visuals, before seeing my games in the folders that I wanted to put them in.
Navigate to downloads and see several things patching themselves at once (was the download chip so expensive?)
A single long press of the DS4's proper PS button (no Fisher Price cut-out here!) and I have access to all the functions, including the 'quit game' option!
Why did they change it for the 5's turd?
@sanderson72 i blame jim ryan . The PS4 came out at a time when there was still a bit of sony & fun left . but this new generation , i don’t know what’s going on with playstation, if people really thought sonys arrogance was bad with the beginning of ps3 , then its much much worse now .
@Mikey856 nah, they don't provide revenue for more AAA. They provide more divideds for shareholders. As soon as the players stop playing they shutter the game.
Where's Epic Games' new AAA game since Fortnite? Where's Bungie's new AAA game after Destiny 2? Both have been ongoing for over 5 years. Given development time scales, which are 5 years or less, usually, we'd be seeing new AAA games from these studios by now.
All the efforts of both studios have been in making sure people are still playing those games and FOMOing on purchases.
Honestly, I dont really like the idea of a ps5 pro.
Current-Gen games are releasing just now and the U5 engine is an unoptimized mess. I want better software, not better hardware to brute force through bad optimiziation.
Games.
Knack 3.
@MattBoothDev well yes because if you have no shareholders you have no company bro lol
@nomither6 "sonys arrogance was bad with the beginning of ps3 , then its much much worse now ."
Yep exactly, and that's the problem isn't it. The hubris of being in the lead and coasting, doing whatever they want because they're so far ahead of the competition. nVidia are doing the same thing in the GPU market, and I suppose Apple are too with every product they make, judging by the way they've done the M3 product launch (deliberately throttling the memory bandwidth by firmware on lower end models is such a d*** move) - it's all very stagnant and arrogant in the tech sector in general right now with incremental product improvements coming at a massive price premium and in gaming so many broken releases and lazy expensive ports of decade old games.
I'd like there first party output to actually have an output. What the hell are some of their studios actually doing? Insomniac seem to be making Super Hero games and where as I was looking forward to an ultra violent animalistic Wolverine game we seem to be getting a 12+ Spiderman starring Logan. Santa Monica haven't made anything for PS5 yet, neither have Guerilla. Naughty Dog just release remastered versions of games that quite frankly don't need one. Sucker Punch seem to have done bugger all since GoT in 2020, Bungie nothing and Bluepoint remastered Demons Souls and........nothing comes to mind.
If they have to remake/remaster their old Stuff can we have things like Bloodborne perhaps, the original GoW games or maybe even some of the more Niche stuff they have made.
As for Plus the premium tier should be scrapped completely and those games added to extra or start giving us some Ps1 games that would make us want to actually pay for it. You know, those hard or rare games or just a big catalogue of titles that we can buy/download from the old days rather than the lacklustre offering currently there.
@Mikey856 Not every company is a PLC with shareholders to appease.
And the issue is most PLCs exist only to generate revenue for shareholders. If a business says "we're not paying dividends this year because we're going to reinvest in the business, everyone loses their *****.
But a responsible business should be keeping money in the bank and not paying out dividends whilst taking on loans to operate. A lot of these businesses do that. They loan all their operating capital from a bank and repay at the end of the year, pay dividends and then repeat for the following year.
So, back to it, they don't take the revenue from these games to invest in more AAA it just gets bled out of the business into dividends.
I'd love to see another fully fledged Astro Bot game, exclusively for the PS5. That is it.
@MattBoothDev
well a great business company only invest it's own money in worse times, because then they have to reform/reinvent the company to stand out to competitors. you don't invest too much when money is overflowing the bucket.
@PALversusNTSC it's pretty poor business sense not to make sure you have enough money to ride any storm before paying out to shareholders.
This is a fairly new phenomenon. In the past, some companies didn't pay dividends at all if they were struggling or didn't make as much as they thought. Amazon don't pay dividends and yet still get investment.
Yet we see, all the time, companies paying dividends out right up until calling in the administrators.
