This is the last weekend before the 2024 release schedule really kicks into gear, so we hope you've cleared your gaming backlog in preparation. Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth await next week, so these are all the games we are playing to pass the time until they release.
Aaron Bayne
The new season of Diablo 4 is pretty damn close, so in usual fashion I've left things way too late to complete the season pass. But that isn't going to stop me and my mates trying our hardest to make it through it all this weekend!
Jade Sayers
This weekend in my ongoing attempt to clear down my backlog, I’ll be going back to AI: The Somnium Files to finish it. I started it ages ago, loved it, and for whatever reason put it on the back burner. I hope I can still remember the plot!
Jaimie Ditchfield
More Baldur's Gate 3 awaits me this weekend and I'm hoping to make good progress before Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth launches next week. There are too many games coming out, especially lengthy RPGs!
Jamie O'Neill
So tonight I'm gonna Force push like it's 1999, by both playing PS1 Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and by contentedly rewatching the first Star Wars prequel film for the thousandth time.
Khayl Adam
I’m continuing my Baldur’s Gate 3 Honour Mode Trophy hunt, but it’s rough. Just blew an eight hour run by picking a fight I wasn’t ready for, but it’s such an exciting way to play, I’m ready to start it all over again anyway. Watch out for those Redcaps.
Stephen Tailby
I still have some review duties to carry out, but aside from that, I'm thinking this might be a good time to give Nobody Saves the World a shot. It's currently part of PS Plus Essential, and I've always wanted to check it out.

Continuing with Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. Again, aiming for 100% souls and map coverage
On the Steam Deck I have started Castlevania Lords of Shadow and it plays like a dream!
And on the Switch I will knock out couple of levels in Quake!
Happy gaming everyone!
Playing old Tekken games waiting for 8 ^__^
Started going through the final fantasy games to platinum them, currently playing final fantasy 5 hope to get it done this weekend. Platinumed 1,2,3,4, 7 remake including integrade, 16 and the dlc and crisis core didn’t want to play anything big before yakuza 8 haha
@MeerkatSimples nice going man. Quite an achievement 👍
Finishing Horizon Forbidden West: One more Tallneck, the last of the collectibles, all but one Hunting Ground (I've been slacking on those) and only two more machine entries. It's been a fun ride, massive in scope and graphically stupendous with lots to do packed in.
If I finish in the next couple days, I will be doing something completely different: Detective Pikachu Returns. I've heard good things about it and its prequel, and this is a different style Pokémon than the mainline games. Should be interesting.
Well, woke up to a freezing flat, so currently tucked up with a hot water bottle playing FFX on the Portal. Just waiting for the central heating to do its thing. In a bit I’ll go play Resi4 VR because, put simply, when you have that game, you don’t play much else. Will have a good amount of time to play today as the wife is visiting a friend.
Platinumed Chants of Sennaar, which is a fantastic little puzzle game (won silver in Pushsquare’s puzzle games of the year). Put 26 hours into it and didn’t cheat once! Excellent use of environmental story telling. Don’t sleep on it if you like puzzle games.
I also started Humanity which is great once you get over the existential nightmare of sending hordes of people plummeting to their deaths (I’m fine with it now).
Also playing Lords of the Fallen (haven’t played LoP yet), but for me, this is the best Soulslike for graphics and level design. For combat, tough, but fair. Could do with gamma control and camera lock though!
Have a good weekend Folks!
Final Fantasy 16 - Still mainly playing this amazing game. I havent been this hooked on a FF game since the original FF 7! Close to the end of the story, but dragging it on a bit by doing the not so great side missions etc. Might as well go for the platinum trophy down the line, just cause its such a good game imo.
TLOU 2 - got the upgrade and tried it out just to see how it plays and it feels and looks really great, but it then already did that. Still, perfect excuse to play it again, but not yet. Will play the part 1 remake first 🙂
Vertigo 2 VR - havent really played it since Im all in on FF 16 but I tried it for maybe half an hour and it seems really fun so I'll go all in on this next.
Still making my way through Fate/Samurai Remnant, but I've just started playing Diablo IV again and really fancy spending my time with that.
Got Sunless Sea (amazing game) and Persona5R on Switch to keep me busy
Started Judgement on PS5 again too although I never got around to completing it the first time. TLOU 2 remaster as well. Lovely stuff 👌
Edit: Seeing as I've just bought TLOU 1&2 on disc I'm gonna do a playthrough of both in reverse order. No work until Friday... I'm locking in guys 😎
Just finished: Dead Island 2. Fun, but def. wore out its welcome by the end.
Just started: Lost in Random. Charming as hell, in the most Tim Burton way possible.
Glad Push Square folks are playing Nobody Saves the World. Very good dungeon crawler with some cool ideas.
The plan last weekend was Jusant and Cocoon, but I booted up Sea Of Stars instead and I'm loving it - so more of that this weekend. It's also a perfect Portal game which means I'll get more opportunity to play it.
Being a fan of the borderlands games I downloaded tiny Tina's wonderland..not too impressed to be honest. Stuck with it for a few hours before uninstalling (although I can still hear her.) Downloaded final fantasy stranger in paradise and that's pretty bad too so I'm back to wo long this weekend and maybe a bit of diablo 4 to mop up season 2 before s3 hits next week. Have a great weekend people 👍
Currently playing TLOU pt2 No Return, which is an excellent addition. Has that just one more run feel to it.
And also decided to finally get the Tekken 7 platinum, now its been confirmed to leave Extra in February.
Happy Gaming all!
I put on the phantom menace game yesterday and Jesus does it look rough, thought it was pictures of Kerry Katona it was that bad.
I'll be mostly on Prince of Persia with a splash of RoboCop too
Finishing off my subnautica platinum then probably start the last of us part 2 remaster at some point.
Just start the Ice borne dlc in monster hunter world and a new playthrough in crash bandicoot 4
@Northern_munkey Same. I can’t remember why I didn’t have time for it when it came out. But I was pretty happy to see it arrive on PlayStation Plus. So I downloaded and like you, I think I managed 2 hours and I don’t know if I’ll be going back. Doesn't have the same Borderlands feel.
Crisis Core Reunion to refresh on FFVII lore and prepping for Tekken 8
Been playing the lost crown, really enjoying it so far. The controls are buttery smooth even if the story is a bit meh. Beyond that I've been going through all my steam demos I downloaded to clear space for the next batch coming in Feb next Fest. Highlight was definitely stick it to the stickman - addictive chaotic fun!
PS5: This week I have been absolutely hooked on Alan Wake 2 so I have put everything else on hold until I got the platinum. My Nintendo and Xbox are getting a well deserved break.
Lords of the fallen on PS5
Dark Souls 3 on the Steam Deck
Good times
After finishing the excellent Baldur's Gate 3, I've started a second playthrough of the excellent Baldur's Gate 3. This time I'm playing the more sinister side of the game as an oathbreaker paladin with a dark urge.
The Last is Us Part 2.
Blitzing the campaign with gameplay modifiers on.
I still need to give No Return a go.
I'll probably do a few dungeons in FFXIV too.
It's back to the outstandingly artistic, incredible lighting, the sense of discovery like never seen before, the legendary... ELDEN RIIIIIINNNG! Lost my saves, so started off as a Nightfolk bandit with pale skin this time round, so swift with the dagger just being a renegade in the artistic Lands Between. Can't stop taking screenshots in this game. No contest it won Best Art Direction. What a true masterpiece!
The Last of Us Part 2 remaster and some Far Cry 6 on PS5 and on Xbox I'm going to try Palworld and maybe finally finish Starfield or give Diablo 4 another chance.
I'm chipping away at my second BG3 playthrough to get the Platinum, just need to not ***** up Karlach's romance... My Durge also needs to get drunk and kill people, which should be easy enough.
Besides that I'm going to jump into Palworld with some chums to commit war crimes against the local wildlife!
AAAAAND I had the realisation that I don't remember anything from the first three Yakuza games so whilst I have Game Pass I'm going to bomb through them focusing on the main story - I'm half way through Yakuza Kiwami
This weekend I’m playing Dead Space Remake. I just finished my first playthrough in its entirety on my PlayStation Portal. I completed all side quests, and did a Plasma Cutter only run which was fantastic.
Shockingly, I managed to collect every text/audio log, weapon upgrades and schematics, all without a guide. So now, I’m making my way through NG+, getting more combat oriented trophies, and preparing myself for Impossible mode to obtain the platinum trophy.
I have a lot to say about this game. Personally, I believe it’s the zenith of survival horror games. One thing I absolutely love about Dead Space — the original and remake — is that the game immerses you in its environment in clever ways.
One way is its lack of HUD. There are no items or distractions on the corners of the screen. If you’re concerned as to where you are or need to go, you will never get lost because it’s accessible without using a map. The answers are always in front of you if you are willing to search your surroundings. However, if you do want to be precise you can open a menu to get a direct location, but even then it’s keeping you in its world and not taking you out of the experience.
Another way is the environmental story telling. It’s almost BioShock-esqe, with its posters and billboards sprawled out across the walls everywhere. As you progress you’ll learn more about why you and others are here. And as you gain more knowledge, you’ll start understanding the graffiti that’s written on the walls and floors — and seeing crew members of the USG Ishimura dead, with candles around them or something grotesque.
Thirdly, the game draws you in by having unique weapons. On the ship is essentially miners and engineers, amongst other professions, and the weapons you acquire are tailored to these varying vocations abroad. And with the game being set in 2508, the guns seem futuristic while also staying grounded to reality. You won’t find your standard assault rifles or handguns.
The final thing I want to discuss is how brilliant its pacing is. The game provides a lot of tools and upgrades at your disposal, and disperses them in such a way that always makes you feel like you’re progressing all the while providing a challenge. There’s a feeling of being at a disadvantage due to tight corridors, the sound design that plays on your fears such as hearing sounds in the vents or screaming from somewhere you can’t physically see. But you’re always equipped to handle it, without feeling stuck in the next main area.
There is a ton more I could mention, such as the Metroidvania-like level design, with the world being interconnected by the tram system and various doors and loot littered throughout, that can only be accessed when you obtain certain items. I didn’t even bring up the story itself, which is quite good. Overall, I’ll end this diatribe by saying: if you’re a fan of survival horror then go play this game — it is a masterpiece.
For me, it's all about replaying FF7 Remake in the build up to Rebirth. Haven't played the Intergrade DLC either, so looking forward to that too!
Warhammer Old World is bringing real gaming back to life, so that virtual is stepping back ...except Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity on Switch...
Haven't been in a mood to game so much recent but if I do, it'll be between RE4RVR, Arizona Sunshine 2, some No Return from TLoU2R, some Valhalla in GoW Ragnarok and finally, Hi-Fi Rush.
I'm hoping to give a Plague tale innocence a bash, some more yakuza 7 like a dragon and if I get a minute, to try out 13 sentinels aegis rim. Have a great weekend folks!
Toy trains vr and some GT7... In vr!
I love vr.
No Return mode in The Last of Us 2. I wasn't expecting to like it so much. It made the $10 upgrade more than worth it.
Street Fighter 6, One Piece Odyssey, Super Mario RPG remake, and King of Fighters 15.
Jedi:Survivor all morning then try playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon hopefully if the wife takes the children out.
Happy gaming everyone!
Try and finish my re run of FF16 and dlc. Then probably try palword
Street Fighter 6, Gran Turismo 7 and Mario Wonder. Gonna take a break from Starfield for a while. I'll probably play something on the steam deck also.
This cold weather got me in the mood to install Skyrim!
If my family isn’t home when I finish work today, I’m totally sinking into Prince of Persia. I might play some more Street Fighter 6 and I do want to try Palworld.
Final Fantasy 7 remake and kayak VR on the 5 and probably nothing on the switch and adbox x
Nothing just setting up me new slim digital.
Then downloading games next 😂
@JamieO Hope you enjoy your time with The Phantom Menace this weekend (both the game and the movie)! It's been incredible seeing that iconic poster pop up on my consoles lately!
Plugging away at Octopath Traveller 2, have done 3 of the stories now and on the last one for Hikari. My partner has also bought Tales of Arise as a gift so I'm looking forward to that, will be my first Tales game!
Will be playing Paper Mario (64) on Switch and Dirt 2 on Xbox 360. Although I'm kinda craving an action/adventure game now, so I upgraded my PS4 copy of The Last of Us Part II yesterday to the PS5 version and I might play it as well this weekend.
No tekken 8 or like a dragon 8 for me so still got time. Finally started Danganronpa V3. And so far so good. I missed playing this series. I absolutely loved 2
I will be playing the amazing middle earth shadow of mordor game of the year edition.easily one of the best video games ever made.talion is one of the best protagonist ever made.the boss fights is excellent.the story is awsome.the graphics is incredible.the gameplay is one of the best gameplay is ever play.and im also playing the wonderful crisis core final fantasy 7.zack fair is one of the best final fantasy protagonist ever.the gameplay is excellent.the boss fights is amazing.the story is awsome.the graphics is excellent.i will be watching my boston Celtics 💚🖤 play.i will be watching legendary sitcoms tv 📺 comedy in Sanford and son.good times.the Jeffersons.and saved by the bell.word up son
Jedi Survivor, with the difficulty turned down to story mode. Finally I feel invincible.
On Ps5 Last Of Us 2 No Return. Forgot how good the combat was in the game. On PC System Shock Remake and Trepang2
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
I haven't gotten to play as much as I'd like to, but still going through and loving the DLC.
Last of us 2 for me, playing the story atm, but will give the no return mode a go later and the cut levels too. Love the game
Finally finished YS 7 Lacrimosa of Dana and I really enjoyed chasing the Plat, highly recommend. With everyone talking about Last of us past 2, I’ve been itching to jump in however, I have like a dragon 8 and Ace attorney out next week. So I have decided for some light relief from my backlog in the form of Tasomachi behind the twilight and slime rancher of which I am finally getting around to it.
@playstation1995 Zack FTW he’s the best
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown for most part. I'm usually not into the metroidvania but man this one hits different. An absolutely fantastic game through and through. Excellent combat, excellent platforming, excellent level design, excellent progression, excellent enemy variety... this game legitimately has it all! Highly recommend it for anyone interested.
If I manage to finish PoP then I'll just put some more time into BG3. I like that one too... but I just don't ever feel a desire to play it when I got other games I'm interested in playing. So I've relegated it to be my in-between game. I finish it sooner or later though.
MLB 22 more than anything else. Even with a losing season in franchise. Even with a neverending backlog of games.
Currently nothing, waiting for Persona 3 Reload after platinuming Persona 3 Portable two days ago!
Fire Emblem Engage - so good. And maybe some gt7 and ancient dungeon on psvr2.
For me I’ve platinumed The Last Faith, so I will start what will probably be terrible but lots of fun: Gungrave GORE.
I’ll also be trying to advance Act 2 in BG3 and of course wrap up LOTF as I’m nearing the end there.
Saints Row reboot (not great but decent fun).
Civ 6 (can't help it, still addicted)
Paper Mario (n64)
Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s INTERmission DLC. Got the platinum for the main game so now seems like as good a time as any to play the DLC.
It’s so lovely being back in that world and seeing the crew around.
I am playing Skyrim, the special addition. Just finished the mages guild quests and I am doing the thieves guild quests at the moment. Will get to play some more when the kids are in bed tonight, taking them to soft play now. Happy weekend everyone
Waiting for my copy of Sreet fighter 6 on PS5 as we speak. So there’s that.
Lies of P, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Last of Us 2
Helping my 5 year old son with Astro's Playroom on the PS5. He absolutely loves that game, but it has some platforming portions that are difficult for him to do for now - and that's where dad comes in
Aside from that, some Prince of Persia The Lost Crown (took a month of Ubisoft+ 'cause it's cheaper than buying it retail).
And maybe continue my trek through NG+ of God of War Ragnarok a bit more, if there's time.
Have a fun weekend everyone!
I'm finishing off Final Fantasy VII Remake before jumping back into Red Dead Redemption and TLOU2
On PS5 i will be continuing with Sable and Posion Control, I'm hoping to get these done by next weekend ready for when the onslaught of games begins, starting with Granblue Fantasy Relink and Persona 3 Reloaded.
On Switch its more Another Code R Recollection, I started on Thursday and I believe I'm coming to the end of the first game. So far its been a great game although highly predictable. I will also be continuing with Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes.
I was probably going to keep it light in preparation for Infinite Wealth next week, but with the news of NG+ being locked behind the deluxe edition and there being 9 trophies attached to it, I'm going to pass. Now I got 6 weeks before Rebirth. Deciding to jump back into either Sea of Stars or BG3.
Well, I had planned to finally platinum Stray this weekend then start The Last of Us 2 but I had a sudden urge to play Arkham Knight again lol.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - I've made it to chapter 10.
Real Soccer 2013 (Windows Phone) - Still enjoying this as well.
Angry Birds Rio (Windows Phone) - In the later parts of the game now.
Horizon Zero Dawn, my last installed PS4 game.
Edit: Platinumed
@playstation1995 sorry about the steelers. From a cardinals fan
1. AC: Mirage (Ubi+ PC)
PS5 taking a rest until Granblue Fantasy: Relink
This weekend I will be mostly playing Soul Fjord on the Ouya, Pistol Whip on the PSVR2 and Slipstream on the PS5.
I've really been getting into Hell Let Loose. Spawn times a bit long and half the time you get some idiots going around team killing but if you find a good lobby, it's really tense and fun. Being shot by someone you can't see makes a change from sniper glints in other games (sniper glints needs to be removed from COD and Battlefield). I wish someone would make a game like HLL but with a single player or a bot lobby though.
@Dragonaged. Its all good.our best player was injured.and we was playing with our third string qb.early turnovers mess things up.but im proud of my Pittsburgh Steelers 💛🖤.our coach is coming back.everyone is going to get better.word up son
Wario Land II
Seeing that "Phantom Menace" image triggered something like PTSD - a flashback to the horrible memories and crushing disappointment of seeing that godawful movie for the first time back in '99 - thanks PushSquare! 🤣. I'm playing "13 Sentinels:Aegis Rim" again. It's just an incredibly well constructed bit of fiction.
Home on sick leave this week so I've played some Octopath Traveler 2 trying to finish it before Granblue Fantasy Relink comes out bit choice paralysis is really getting to me. Between the Valhalla DLC and trying out random games I've mostly just sat watching YouTube vids instead of actually playing anything. 😪
I'll be watch the NFL playoffs as well!
Hope everyone has a good gaming weekend.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster and Avatar for me.
I'm almost done with Evil West. Personally I enjoyed thoroughly this game. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's a fun shooter. During the weekend I will probably redownload Humanity since I didn't get the chance to finish it last time. Happy gaming everyone!
Clocked in about 32 hours into Cyberpunk over the last few weeks. Really loving the game way more then I anticipated. I've only just touched a few mainline quests in Act 2 lol.
Red Dead Redemption II
Not to play it in a regular fashion, more to go out of bounds to see cut content using the "get drunk in a cave" exploit on the west of the map. You can get to Guarma that way, and also to the remnants of Nuevo Paraíso 🇲🇽 or Tempest Rim (east of the Grizzlies) with Arthur and not get killed by the invisible sniper if you're careful and don't stray to close to New Austin. Out of bounds treks in the Forbidden Plains are super fun, especially when animals just stand there because they lack AI pathing in those areas.
@Link41x damn man, I would pay a ton of money to play Golden Abyss. It's impossible to find a PS Vita where I live. Hopefully they will bring it to PS+ Premium. This is my anticipated game for Premium.
I can finally resume my career in WRC23, was unable to continue since Dec 14 when an update broke the game. Was fixed on Thursday, a month later. And more Rogue Trader, doing pretty good so far!
Diving back into Hyrule with Tears of the Kingdom and hopefully getting the Platinum for Klonoa 1 & 2.
Not yet another recycled content cash grab release, that's for sure.
'Under the waves' is very compelling so Im planning on getting further into that,
... but my head is easilly turned and I spent a few hours earler with fighting stick plugged in playing 'Raycrisis Hd' - old school I know, but still does it for me!
Now Ive installed 'Tiny Tinas Wonderland'. I thought it would be a quick look and uninstall (Im not so keed on boaderlands), but so far its really good fun. Maybe Ill pick up under the waves tommorrow 🤣
Whatever you are all playing, I hope you have fun!
Been wanting to play a co-op game like Stardew Valley with my girlfriend and we’ve found a similar game on the store called Roots of Pacha. We’ll be giving that a try tonight.
After suffering from Covid last week I'll be jumping back into The Finals with friends and also trying the new solo mode. Also a few games on MLB The Show which I got on sale recently. Happy gaming all!
World.of Warcraft Classic Lich King (PC) Continuing my travels with my so today we are going to be starting the Ashenvale Zone. Level 23 Troll Shaman.
Super Mario 3D World (Switch) Really enjoying this game alot. It takes every thing I liked about 3D Land and adds more.
Palworld (Xbox Series X) Pokemon with guns, sounds interesting enough. Will be giving this a shot on game pass.
Started Sea of Stars, 2 hours in and I like it a lot, very beautiful visuals. On the side some Power Washing ^^
Enjoy the weekend everyone
thinking I might get ep 1 myself
Bloodborne - Old Hunters, trying to beat Orphan of Kos. After that, still some trophies to chase to get the platinum in base game...I hope I will be rewarded some day
Have a great weekend!!!
I am playing God of War Ragnarok. I am exploring a lot between main missions. So far so good. Sometimes I spend significantly more time figure out some puzzles.
Before that I played Gran Turismo, but I got bored playing only a few hours. GoW is more entertaining so far.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Wo Long despite it being incredibly buggy. I just played Lies of P before Wo Long and have to say, LoP is a far superior experience IMO. But I’m having fun with Wo Long anyways as I wait for LAD: Infinite Wealth
Still working through Alan Wake II. PS app says I am 15 hours in and I am just at the end of Saga’s third chapter so I think I have quite a ways to go. I admit am playing with a guide so I get all the collectibles and power ups lol. The game really clicked for me in that chapter with in Watery/Coffee World so I can’t wait to be able to play more.
On PS Portal I’ve been playing Dredge, love the atmosphere in that one and perfect Portal game. And I’ve got a bunch of indies from the end of year sale waiting: Blasphemous 2, Cocoon, Homebody, and Little Nightmares 2 I want to dip into in Portal.
I also can’t seem to quit Sea of Stars after beating it in December, still going back and knocking off things for the secret ending.
I also did one run in GowR: Valhalla and want to clear that to make room on my SSD for TLOU2 No Return mode.
I've signed U+ on the Series X last week, so I finished today Avatar and will move on to Prince of Persia tomorrow. On the playlist, I pretend to prepare for FF VII Rebirth on the PS5 by playing FF VII Remake again, then a 1st play of Crisis Core FF VII Reunion.
I've been playing Power Wash Simulator but it's now beging to outstay it's welcome. I'm up to the Helter Skelter in career mode after 5-starring all the previous levels, but I think I'm done.
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown on Xbox and still going along in Sea of Stars on Steam Deck
Bit more dead space remake, played on xbox not that long ago with the bc upgrade thing they do but it's so good I'm loving it again
@Duck_Farmer I like it playing it for a quick half hour before playing something else, any longer and I start to question what I'm doing with my life🤣
Spent December playing Like a Dragon Gaiden and this month playing Ishin! Can't believe I slept on these. Should be finished just in time for Infinite Wealth.
Ghost of Tsushima - Iki Island. It's an excellent expansion to the awesome base game.
@Zuljaras just started playing Lords of Shadow for the first time and it rules!! I so wish Castlevania would be revived as an IP
A little FF7 Remake and maybe some Hogwarts
Alan Wake 2, CoD MW3 and some Prince of Persia.
Bouncing between sessions of Alan Wake 2 on Xbox and Robocop on PS5. Really enjoying both games. And then working through a chapter at a time of Breaking points in F1 23. Have a great weekend!
So disappointed that PSNs new Phantom Menace PS1 Classic title doesn't contain trophies. I was so excited for them
Getting destroyed by slay the spire - I cannot beat this game with The Silent!!
Also continuing with RE4 remake
@SuperiorSpidey LoS is awesome, LoS Mirror of Fate is awesome! LoS 2 is just good.
Nowadays the fans of the series take it upon themselves to make good Castlevania games.
Chernobylite & Wo Long.
Getting close to completing both the DLC for COD: Ghosts on PS3 and Evil West on PS5 but definitely gonna be watching my Lions Sunday afternoon! After I’m done w those games….??? Not sure what I’ll play next. A lot of titles I’m interested in but we’ll see what I go with.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered and Hellblade. Going to be adding 2 new platinums to my growing collection (currently have 51).
@Northern_munkey
I personally loved Stranger of Paradise but I had to stick with it past the introductory hours. It evolved into a really nice riff on the Soulslike formula.
Alrighty another week and another WAYP. Here we go ehehehe. This weekends been kinda decent I guess. Some Octopath 2 and some Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising as well as some Rain Code. I mean that was my pick for this weekends poll. It’s finally clicking and I hope I’m not just saying that because I’m on Chapter 4 of 6 I’m thinking. My copy of Another Code has come in so I’m happy as heck about that. Also got the Noah and Mio amiibo alongside some ESHOP money so I think I’m gonna get Under Night In Birth 2 Sys: Celes and probably the Rain Code DLC. Big week this week tho we got Tekken 8 and Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth at the end of the week two games I’m super hyped for. Then the good times just keep rolling really ehehe. Think I’m gonna try fitting in a play through of FFVII Remake Intergrade before Rebirth. Specifically the Intermission with Yuffie. Otherwise while I wait for the big releases at the end of the week it’s business as usual. Some Assassins Creed, some Octopath maybe and even some Golden Sun I really liked what I played. Anime of the week gotta go to the new stand outs of winter like Mashle, Sign Of Affection, Witch and the Beast, Solo Leveling and a lot more. All excellent so far. As for podcasts I’m also in GOTY collection mode still so ya know outside of Castle Superbeast and Big Think Dimension it’s collection duty for stuff like Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Nextlander, Remap Radio and of course Windbreaker and Firelink from the great guys of Second Wind. Of course we gotta give a big lovely shoutout to my friend again at twitch.tv/akibread. With these new releases coming I think I’m finally feeling those early January blues going away. It’s a good time to like games friends so as always have a great weekend, be safe and Happy Gaming.
Thank you, and "Roger, Roger" to @RogerRoger, because I've very much enjoyed having my own mini Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace celebration this weekend.
With the exception of me loving Episode III – Revenge of the Sith from its release, I have had a love/hate relationship with the prequel films, although I've watched them over-and-over, so I must love them really.
I've seen every Star Wars film on the pictures, and there was a very long 16 year wait between watching Return of the Jedi on the cinema in 1983 as a kid, and seeing a brand new Star Wars film in 1999.
Over this time, there was no way that The Phantom Menace could meet my lofty expectations, so while I enjoyed it in 1999, I was unkind to its poor pacing, the focus on political trade disputes, Anakin as a precocious kid, and the introduction of Jar Jar Binks as a goofy, comical character.
Since then I've watched it many times, so I sometimes skip any ship parts fetch quest and midi-chlorians discussion during the Tatooine build up, and I go straight to the action. If you focus on watching the opening, then enjoy the podrace, and see the Naboo planet and space sections to the end, it's a fun film.
I also appreciate the way that Senator Palpatine was puppeteering, and manipulating things so early on in the Senate now, as it was a well planned scheme, even though the storytelling felt like a diversion from Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie's hero's journey in the original trilogy.
Everything with Darth Maul is still awesome anyway, like in that LEGO The Empire Strikes Out Darth Maul "Awesome!" song.
Cheers, mate.
@JamieO "If you focus on watching the opening, then enjoy the podrace, and see the Naboo planet and space sections to the end, it's a fun film." I find that if you skip the part between the opening title crawl and the closing credits then it's a fun film. You weren't "unkind" to the film in 1999 - those criticisms were and are completely valid.
@LN78 Did you enjoy the lightsaber duel with Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi against Darth Maul, all set to John Williams' 'Duel of the Fates' score, though mate?
That part of The Phantom Menace looked and sounded great on the big screen.
@JamieO I don't think anybody in their right mind can fault the John Williams score - it's immaculate, but in all honesty, the best bits of "The Phantom Menace" were that first (mind blowing) teaser trailer and the initial poster (the "Episode I" Vader's shadow design - I've got it framed in my AV room). As someone who'd been a rabid "Star Wars" fan all the way through the "dark times" of the 80s and 90s (read the books and comics, played the games, pretended to like "Caravan of Courage") seeing the movie itself on opening night was completely devastating. It was garbage. Difficult to believe that (a few bumps like "Andor" aside) the franchise has actually gone downhill since the prequels. 🤣.
Palmon on Game Pass, it's interesting but still a beta.
@LN78 I've recently received The Mandalorian: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD for Christmas, so like you mentioned above, I'd love it if Disney could set it up with Lucasfilm to release a physical version of Andor.
Andor deserves praise as a Star Wars show, so I was pleased to see that you set it aside as a standout amongst modern Star Wars releases.
@JamieO As a die-hard physical media buff, I'll be ordering the "Andor" 4K the minute it becomes available. The writing and acting (from Andy Serkis, Stellan Skarsgaard and Genevieve O' Reilly in particular) were outstanding - it was top quality drama (the prison arc was a standout) that many people I know found enthralling despite the "Star Wars" branding. Can't wait for Season 2.
@JamieO
I'm glad you enjoyed your mini-celebration! Given that The Phantom Menace is my favourite Star Wars movie (tied with Revenge of the Sith, depending on my mood) it's refreshing to see a fan who's prepared to revise their opinions. I'm currently trying to do the same with the Sequel Trilogy, which viscerally demonstrated to me how generational movies can be. After all, it's always more fun to like something than it is to hate it.
And what about that game, eh? Its attention to detail is astounding, especially for a 90s cash-in. Am pretty sure its immersion and experimentation is partly responsible for my broader feelings towards The Phantom Menace. One of the few times a licenced game has really delivered on its "live the movie" promise.
