Capcom's excellent fighting game, Street Fighter 6, has been a big success for the publisher. As of 3rd January 2024, it's sold more than three million copies globally since launch just over seven months ago. The figure comes direct from Capcom in a press release on its website, where it also says the Street Fighter series as a whole has sold "over 52 million units worldwide".
Following its launch in June 2023, Street Fighter 6 got off to a flying start, selling two million units in just over a month. While it's obviously taken longer to reach three million, its momentum seems to be much stronger than the previous entry. Street Fighter 5's lifetime sales are reportedly 7.4 million units; its successor is almost half-way to matching it, and it's only been available for about half a year. We expect it'll become the franchise's biggest seller in due course.

Really well deserved. I’ve said it here countless times before but what SF6 does better than any other fighting game I have played is constantly push you to be better and gives you almost of the tools you need to do so. On top of that it’s got a huge amount of single player content, a varied character roster, an amazing community and beautiful graphics.
If I could make one change I would add the feature from recent MK/injustice games where you can select the inputs for basic combos and moves to appear during fights (although not in ranked). My memory is not what it used to be and this feature really helps when learning a new character. Oh and some more (non paid) customisation options for base characters wouldn’t go amiss but for pure gameplay it’s easily jumped it’s way to my GOAT.
by the power of good advertising and social media pretty much
I will buy a copy eventually, but fighting games have trained me to wait a year or so for the complete experience at a reasonable price.
Truly deserved and, really, it should sell way more
It is a good game, but charging for costumes is stupid.
Best fighter out right now and only Tekken 8 is a contender to it.
Not to be that guy, but I thought Capcom was aiming for 10 million for this game. Doesn't 3 million since Summer last year seem kinda low for what they're looking to sell? Or do Fighting games just not sell that well?
Heard it's really good, bought it months ago and haven't touched it due to catching up on my gaming backlog.
It's going to take something special to beat SF4, I'll see how it compares...one day.
@NathanKang - They don’t usually, (unless they’re Super Smash Bros or to a lesser extent Mortal Kombat); Street Fighter V is currently the best selling SF game and it managed 7.4mil (as listed in the article), Tekken 7 is the best selling in its series, and even with 7 years on the market only managed 10 mil (it also took a full year to reach 3 mil). So for SF6 to sell 3 mil in 6-7 months is actually pretty good for a SF game, and I can imagine those numbers will get a decent boost when Akuma is added to the game.
Still really enjoying it, there's so much content and the core fighting is chef's kiss. Agree with @GeeEssEff in that the game pushes you to be better with each defeat. Learning from a loss and improving on SF6 is an incredibly rewarding process. Great to see the positive figures and reception to what is in my top 5 PS5 games. Hadouken!
I love this game and have played almost every day since it came out. I think a great thank you from Capcom to the fans would be to release Dan as a DLC character for free.
Really happy for SF6. They need to come out with more DLC characters soon.
For comparison, SF4 sold 9 million lifetime.
SF6 still has years ahead of it though, but these numbers show a series decline for now.
@Nem sf4 sold 3.5 million copies in the first year sf6 sold 3 million in its first 6 months so how is this show decline.
@Jay767 I was talking about lifetime sales. Don't be cheeky. I clearly said "for now" and there are still years ahead of it.
