We've liked the look of Phantom Blade Zero from the very start, and this most recent trailer has really got us back in the mood. To celebrate the Chinese New Year, developer S-GAME put together the above video, and it's an incredibly stylish teaser with some brief looks at gameplay towards the end.
Most of the trailer is made up of an anime-style scene in which two warriors meet each other on a bridge. With a raging thunderstorm in the background, the pair stand off, and we see (presumably) memories of past battles before they clash for real. This gives way to the aforementioned snippets of gameplay. It might not be the best look at the game itself, but it's still very cool.
Phantom Blade Zero will receive a demo on PS5 sometime in 2024, and we can't wait to take the game for a spin. Are you looking forward to this one? Let us know in the comments section below.

Happy about the demo being announced. The gameplay they showed previously almost looked too good to be true.
I’ll wait on a demo to see how I feel about it. Hopefully the demo is soon. I like what I’ve seen so far. Love the music in the trailer.
This continues to look very cool. The demo will be appreciated
Looking stylish and probably another game to add to my growing list!
It's good that it's getting a demo so we can know exactly what kind of a game it is. Is it a Soulslike game or something of that sort? If so, I'll gladly pass, but this will be a good way to finally know. The trailers for it have been fantastic, but we know very little about the game as a whole.
Wow, that trailer is certainly stylish. Unfortunately until the last few seconds it looks like a promo for a new anime show. When the gameplay actually shows up it looks good, but could be mistaken for a completely unrelated piece.
And samurai styled action games seem to be coming in droves now. As with other genres in video gaming, there appears to be a rush to the hot popular subject matter and then we get oversaturation. I’ll keep an open mind about it though, but with Rise of the Ronin coming this year along with Black Myth Wukong, and presumably Ghost of Tsushima 2 on the horizon (or more likely “Ghost of [such-and-such place]), not to mention recent 2023 releases like Like a Dragon: Ishin, and Wo Long, we’ll see if Phantom Blade 0 can distinguish itself.
It happens with other genres too, like the deluge of Norse themed games in recent years, the rush in Souls-likes, or spike in survival horror releases all in one span (Callisto Protocol releasing on top of Dead Space Remake and RE4 Remake). Sometimes a rising tide raises all ships and there’s a general synergistic impact, but sometimes these titles cannibalize each other.
Foolishness, Dante. Foolishness...
@KilloWertz From what they've written, it isn't a souls game. When the game was announced last year the director made a post on the PlayStation blog detailing their vision for the game and they said a souls style of combat doesn't fit their vision. They billed it as a hack and slash RPG but they detailed that they wanted it to be simpler for players to pull off flashy moves and combos.
A lot of outlets didn't report this, or in the case of IGN, didn't read it at all because IGN claimed it was a soulslike and a Samurai game, even though it isn't a souls like and is Chinese and thus would be more influenced by the Wuxia genre and kung fu movies. They even call their artsyle for the game "kungfu punk". Here's the URL to the original blog post.

I'll watch that anime if they decide to release it.
Nice. Always appreciate a studio that lets people try before they buy.
Korean and chinese games are real and are starting to drop. Welcome to the new age
This game and Project The Perceiver look cool. I wonder if that still coming out..
This looks really cool. I just hope we don’t become over saturated with these types of games.
@Churchy Thanks for that. I just assumed based on the fascination with that kind of a game that it was possible this would be another, but now I'm more interested than before.
@KilloWertz You're welcome. It's a reasonable thing to assume as it does have an art style that is very similar to a lot of Soulslike games. I'm glad you're more interested in it as a result. It'll be interesting to see more of how the battle system and game mechanics will work as we get more information.
