There’ll be no new game announcements to mark the tenth anniversary of The Last of Us’ release. Naughty Dog prefaced a slew of tangential announcements on Twitter today by confirming that it’ll only be honouring the “series’ impact” and will “not be making any game development updates”. This obviously follows a pretty concerning report in which it was alleged that production had been scaled back on The Last of Us 2’s hotly anticipated standalone multiplayer game.
Series creator Neil Druckmann did temporarily set pulses racing on social media when he said there’s “more The Last of Us coming your way”, but he could of course have been referring to the previously announced second season of HBO’s wildly successful television show.
As for the actual announcements Naughty Dog’s made to mark the occasion, it revealed a new Clicker statue it’s created with Dark Horse, as well as an upcoming art gallery collaboration with Nucleus. It’s also been talking a little bit about the impact of the game on its team, something which our very own Aaron Bayne discussed in the above video.

Downs? What downs? The PC port at launch? Those guys are used to it.
This will not be popular on here but as a Last of us mega fan, i wish the 10th anniversary would have released a Part 2 PS5 version of Last of Us 2. I bought the first one for PS5 after owning it on PS3 and the PS5 version of this game is insanely great. I beat it twice on PS5 alone. Even the trophy list is way better than the PS3. I want Last of Us 2 on PS5, even tho i know everyone will be upset about it and say it cost to much, which it does. I got the Digital copy on PS5 for $49.99 and found it to be great value.
Pull your finger out Neil and release a PSVR2 port, that will shift some units.
"Nothing to show because Sony had us waste 3 years of dev time on Factions and then let scummy Bungie get it buried."
Sorry still a little salty about that whole situation. Imagine how far along TLOU3 or Jak or any other big story game from ND would be right now if that whole fiasco didn't happen.
@JSnow2 i feel like as much as a new jak game would be great , naughty dog will never make another jak game it would have to be some one else.
@JSnow2 It is better to have loved and lost
@Green-Bandit i mean it basicly got most of the upgrades a ps5 upgrade would have been anyways. the 60fps , and haptic feed back on the controller was patched in with an update.
@Green-Bandit I think a lot of people would love that, myself including. Was the game perfect? No. Story “controversy” aside, the combat segments were some of my favorite in gaming at the time. A PS5 upgrade path is a slam dunk for ND, but I feel like they’re waiting to do a Director’s Cut eventually.
That blows. I was kinda hoping for a native PS5 version of Part II.
@Green-Bandit A full PS5 port would be interesting simply due to the fact it gives them reason to port to PC.
I'd love to know how much development time has been lost since LOU2 released. I'd like to think ND has been working on multiple projects for a while so their next SP project is further along than we might think - still with us only being 3 years out from the release of Part 2 i think we still have a long way to go
Nah, I'm good with not seeing any more Last Of Us tbh. They spent a decade on Uncharted, a decade on this, and those two franchises are literally half of the lifetime existence of the developer. Time for something new I think.
Want a Dark Horse Clicker statue shipped to the UK? That'll cost you £300 all in including shipping and taxes. Not to mention the inevitable delays and the hope that it arrives in one piece. They'll then produce a smaller and available everywhere 8" version for £70. Yeah, burn me twice (Joel and Abby)... 🤣
How about discounting the PS5 version of part 1 below £52.49 as a gift 🙃
They have to get approval from Bungie to do anything.
@Rob_230 didn't at one point they said they were doing the remake , the multiplayer game , something else ( maybe part 3 ? ) and a game that wasn't last of us ( possibly new ip? ).
So we know ND's going to make even more TLoU.... which isn't needed. I guess I'll continue to ignore them.
@twitchtvpat Yeah, I'm a little worried Naughty Dog's basically going to become a Last of Us studio. We're seeing Guerrilla focusing almost solely on Horizon, but I hope we see more from these studios.
Don't want gaming studios to only work on one brand. It's why I hope The Coalition or 343 at Xbox have a crack at something else like Playground is now doing.
@JSnow2
ND > Bungie at multiplayer.
If you need new content to keep a game relevant, the base game is not good enough.
@GodofCapcom MP games do need new content
@Triumph741
The ps3 games didn't. They were a lot more enganging.
@twitchtvpat yeah thats a far point, it’s close to being a PS5 version. But they could do more if they decided to do a native PS5 edition. Maybe even wait and bring it out on the PS6 and really blow the doors open on it. Either way it’s my favorite IP on PS at the moment and i would buy it if they made it.
@AverageGamer Yeah the PC port would for sure be a factor in development decision. I am sure one day we will see it. Makes to much sense and by sense i mean money haha 😀
@CWill97 i am here for it if they do it. Yeah it wasn’t perfect but it was close on aging hardware and it was stunning looking. PS5 native version could be insane. Time will tell but i am excited to see some people, yourself included wanting it.
@JSnow2 I am very skeptical of Bungie’s advice on a naughty dog game. I don’t need factions to be some time consuming “play at launch and keep playing or it’s difficult to catch up” type of service game. I just want TLOU multiplayer with story elements and co-op and pvp action. Honestly the worst thing they can do in my opinion is mimic Destiny.
@Green-Bandit I feel the same. Part 1 on ps5 was incredible and I beat it twice and will likely go back a third time in a year or two.
@GodofCapcom the constant push for new content in MP games has been a net negative for me. If I don’t have time to play for a month and go back and the game has new mechanics and features and modes I have to learn the likelihood of me dropping the game for good skyrockets.
@IamJT couldn’t have said it better. Thats the same for me, beat it twice, only got 57% trophies, but i will beat it again at some point down the road. It’s my Resident evil 4, a game that just keeps on keeping on after all these years and has a cult following. Now if i could just get the rest of the optional conversations to complete that gold trophy. I am so close but they are a drag to get when you only need a few. Plus all of her jokes, it say’s i am only at 33% but i feel like i did more than that. Anyways what i am saying is i have more to do on it before i can say i am done. Happy to own it!!
Adding either part 1 remake or part 2 to plus (extra) would be nice.
@Green-Bandit if they had a 10$ upgrade like they did with spiderman i'd be more then happy to get that for part 2 , but im pretty happy it had gotten some upgrades for the ps5
Well...it's SteamDeck verified at least!
@twitchtvpat that would be cool, but i see them releasing it as a full PS5 release like Part 1 and bringing it to PC. Got to keep up with the demand the show is receiving. Any way they did it i would buy it. Easily my favorite PS franchise, it was God of War but as much as i wanted GOWR to be a 10 for me, i came away at an 8-8.5, something just didn’t win me over like the 2018 GOW. So now Last of Us is in my number 1 spot and my feelings were hurt when they didn’t show the multiplayer Last of Us project at the showcase.
ND is the BEST in business so it's sad too wait something from them since for 3 years already. Hope they announce their new IP soon.
Hopefully we'll get an update during the rumored September Showcase, assuming that's real.
