New PS5 Console Covers spotted at CES suggest the latest Deep Earth Collection of faceplates for Sony's current-gen system could soon become available for the PS5 Slim also. The Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver variants are already available (from 26th January 2024 for Sterling Silver) for the original 2020 model, but no word has been shared on whether the new PS5 Slim will also be treated to the Console Covers. This uncovering suggests they will be.
Theoretically, this also means the separate disc drive and its outer casing could also be sold in different colour variants down the line.
So far, Sony has remained fairly reserved with the PS5 Console Cover variants it's offered. Basic colours like Starlight Blue, Nova Pink, and Galactic Purple are on offer alongside some limited versions based on Final Fantasy XVI and Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

I honestly still think the slim looks kinda ugly honestly. But maybe blue will make it better!
@HotGoomba I thought the same until I got mine. I have it oriented horizontally and I think it actually looks nice that way. But it looks just as bad vertically in person as it does in photos. I was originally planning on standing it that way, but the unsightly disc drive bulge combined with the need to purchase the vertical stand separately pushed me to make it work horizontally. Just had to move my Xbox One to storage, which wasn't an issue since I never use it anyway.
I have slim disc. Hopefully sooner or later can get a white replacement panel to make my console properly appear as digital. Have only one game on disc, while slim console looks so much better without off center bulge to the right (notably when using new official stand).
I want a black 1. But I don't wanna buy a white ps5 then buy a faceplate for it. I want the console n controller to come in black or the colour I want.
Anyone notice they did that red/white/blue thing in 2011 with the PS3 Slims? Seems appropriate that they're doing it again with the PS5 Slims 12 years later; I still have a blue DualShock 3 from back then and it still lasts 20-30 hours on the original battery.
A Sony that respects their heritage a bit more, really? Guess JR being shown the door is already giving us minor improvements if this is anything to go by.
Knowing Sony, they won't release any of those colours for the original style PS5s, which is a shame as blue is my favourite colour and their rendition of Cobalt Blue is nice if a bit too white (could be stage lighting though). I still think they really dropped the ball on custom colours though; companies like dbrand really ate their lunch on stuff like that.
@HotGoomba Yup, Slim Disc is a bit more fugly than original because you can't make the Blu-ray drive physically that much smaller; I can't see Sony releasing games on GameCube sized Discs, can you? 😂
I still think it's a bit rich that the metal vert stand is a paid for extra compared to the two-way stand provided with the original models; cheap plastic sure, but it did the job just fine so they've managed to make an already crappy design decision (needing a stand in the first place) worse. But that is 2023 Sony all over.
genuinely shocked nobody is talking about the silver one in the comments
are we seeing the same picture ? it’s the best looking one , it gives glamorous vibes
@zekepliskin doesn't need a stand at all. That's just them trying to make money. My slim is secure stood up.
@nomither6 I preordered mine (for the standard PS5) back at the start of October. Anything to get close to the original PlayStation grey (not quite the same but probably as close as we can get). Preordered the sterling silver controller back then too.
Only a few more weeks to wait. Haha.
At first I thought the slim is kinda ugly, but when they used other colour than white,it look nice to me lol. Still im stick with my og.
@SoulChimera i was thinking more of the original silver ps3 is what it reminded me of .
@nomither6 it is closer, yeah. I just hope they release a 30th anniversary cover for whatever the PS5 Pro looks like. Can’t get enough of the original grey.
@SoulChimera i hope they release some plates too if they do decide to do that . i know a lot of people think the original ps5 is ugly , but i dont . id like a classic look for it , and some colored buttons on the controller
@zekepliskin lol what? These were announced before the PS5 Slim, while we did not know JR was leaving yet, and are 100% coming to the OG consoles as that's what they were revealed for.
Silver looks like what PS5 should've been instead of white. Well, all of the colours look better than white.
I've stuck some of the Mcbazel ones (find 'em on Amazon) on our original disc fatty.
As they follow the lines of the inner (black) part of the PS5, it reduces the height (it really is hidden behind the TV unit now!) and black is slimming, apparently. Plus they were only about £30.
@Andy22385 If that works for you, fair, but the original models it's best to have a stand for the ventilation holes underneath when vertical. Although horizontal means less dust accumulates in the fins on top.
@SlipperyFish Wow thanks, I learnt something today!

At £49.99 though, not exactly what I'd call value. I could buy several games on sale for that amount. I'll stick with OG white plates then 😂
