Sony has just announced a new PS5 firmware update that's going into public beta testing today. A selection of PS5 users will be invited via email to try out the firmware's new features before it's rolled out to everybody. Time to check those inboxes!
So, what's the deal with this firmware beta? Well, it's not an enormous one, but what's included here is still pretty neat. First up, the firmware brings with it software updates for DualSense and DualSense Edge; the controllers' internal speakers have been improved to deliver higher volume sound, and the internal microphones now utilise new AI tech to enhance their noise-cancelling capabilities. While using the controller mic, things like button presses and game audio will be reduced further so you sound clearer to your buddies.
Elsewhere, the firmware makes improvements to the PS5's oft-ignored Share Screen functionality. With this beta firmware, the viewer will be able to move a pointer around, send out a ping, and draw lines on the host's gameplay. This allows them to highlight certain things in the game more easily. Viewers will also be able to send emojis, reacting to what's happening. If you don't like the sound of those features, the host can disable them when setting up a Share Screen.
Finally, you'll be able to adjust the brightness of the PS5's power indicator (the lights outlining the black centre of the console). You can choose from three levels of brightness.
All this will be coming in a firmware update "in the coming months" to all players, but a certain selection of users can hop into this beta stage starting now to test out these features. Did you get into the PS5 firmware beta? Do you like the sound of these updates? Let us know in the comments section below.

And here I'm still missing the PS4 'What's new" screen. Loved seeing what games friends were playing, trophies they were earning and screenshots they posted. PS5 always feels like a lonelier experience.
All those horrific share screen "improvements" on a feature barely anyone uses over Folders? Now come on now, Sony
@Icey664 go to the game base!
And where are the software performance and stability improvements? What a letdown from Sony
LED brightness adjustment is a cool feature.
Not a massive update but been waiting for light controls since launch, hopefully can have console on rest mode now without the light bothering me at night.
Share screen is often ignored? Ive been using it a rather frequently to see what my buddies are playing.
How do they improve speakers with firmware? Genuine question.
Just give us the ability to adjust the deadzones on each controller, so we can eliminate stick drift!
Lights and sounds update
I’ve never used Share Screen, but it sounds like it’s going to be fairly robust.
As a guy who plays 98% solo with headphones on, the only thing here for me is the light dimming feature. That’s nice to have, I guess. Now that I can quiet the launch ‘beep’, I’ll also be suppressing the light. 😅
To All those people who cant afford a headset with a mic, please mute your mic on your controllers so we dont have to hear your baby crying in the background... thank you
@FuzzieGinge88 the same way they charge us extra for ps plus saying we get magically better stability updates. Watever that means. The least they can do is buy more servers with the extra cash flow
Good, I can barely hear the sound from the speaker, when playing spider-man, even at max volume. Hope this helps.
Sony, please!
1. Improve PS Remote Play, with lower latency (especially audio) and no frame-drops.
2. Let me set the headphones volume ingame with L1 and R1 while holding the mute button.

If anybody needs a code
@Icey664 Whole PS5 'experience' feels like a bit of a beta to be honest. Bit like the first few iterations of the PS3 OS.
PS4 seemed to hit the ground running and just got better and better until it is (still) the pinnacle of PS UI & OS.
1st thing to do on any game is mute the flipping speaker on the controller 😅
I've also never heard of share screen
Can we have a firmware update to make the battery last long than a typical round of Fortnite?!
Will this update fix the current known stutter issue with Remote Play streaming from the PS5 to the Portal? (not Wifi/network related, as described in the following Reddit) I guess we can only dream…
