Each year, Day of the Devs shines a spotlight on a selection of really interesting indie games, whether that's at an in-person event or a digital showcase. In recent years, the latter has been attached to Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards, and they're always well worth watching to see what left-field titles will pop up. Run by Double Fine Productions and iam8bit, it's been around for about 12 years, and 2024 marks a big change in its operation.
Day of the Devs is now officially a fully independent, non-profit entity. This won't have a huge impact on the average person, but it means the show is doubling down on staying platform agnostic, and opens up opportunities for better fundraising. A statement on the website explains the move.
"We have essentially always run things as a non-profit, but making it official – through a fiscal sponsorship partnership with Legacy Global – it opens us up to better funding opportunities, makes our fundraising efforts more transparent and public, and helps our sponsors and audience understand how critical their support truly is," it reads.
As part of its plans for a trio of shows throughout this year, Day of the Devs has opened a public fundraiser, allowing supporters to make one-off or regular monthly donations. You can donate as much or as little as you want, but there are two reward tiers if you can afford to give a little more.
For $100, you'll be given VIP access to the two in-person events planned for 2024, as well as a large pack of Steam games (worth over $500). If you donate $250, you'll get all those digital games plus a bunch of physical Day of the Devs swag, including a mug, socks, and keychain.

This is great to hear. So cool an Xbox studio is keeping this system agnostic.
