Hogwarts Legacy Guide: Tips and Tricks for Beginners
For the final section of our Hogwarts Legacy guide, we'll share some tips and tricks for beginners, covering points we think are important to know as you play the game. Below you will find a selection of tips and recommendations to help you find your feet in the huge open world.
Use Revelio Everywhere
There are so many objects to interact with and Collectibles to pick up that you'd never spot everything on your own. This is where Revelio comes in, a Spell that highlights things in the environment in a different colour. Whenever you're some place new, use the Spell to find things to collect and add to your inventory.
The Game Takes Its Time to Open Up
Features like The Room of Requirement and riding a broomstick have featured quite heavily in footage shown prior to release, but it takes quite a lot of time before you actually gain access to them. It takes a long time for the game to give you everything, so don't worry about whether you've missed a vital mechanic. You'll get it all eventually.
Sell Unwanted Gear to Free Up Slots
At the start of the game, you only have 20 gear slots, which are shared across every type of armour piece. It's very, very limiting, to the point where you won't be able to pick up new items if your gear slots are at full capacity. You will unlock a way to increase your gear slots, but until that happens, always sell the stuff you don't want at shops in Hogsmeade.
Use Floo Flames to Quickly Get Around
The open world is a gigantic place, so if you wish to cut down on travel time, take advantage of the Floo Flame system. This allows you to fast travel to any Floo Flame you've found in the environment, which is done by simply walking up to it. You can then open the map up and fast travel to any Floo Flame on the map.
Complete the Optional Assignments
Alongside the Main Quest and side missions, you'll also be handed optional Assignments by teachers. These are worth doing because they unlock more Spells for you to add to your arsenal, and they also further your capabilities of interacting with the environment. For example, Wingardium Leviosa is an optional Spell to learn.
That concludes our Hogwarts Legacy guide, which we hope proved helpful for whatever piece of information you were looking for. If you have any further suggestions or need an extra bit of help, feel free to post in the comments below.

Great to see a guide up, going to come in handy when going for that platinum!
Great guide! Will definitely be using this!
Nice to see a guide, I will bookmark but attempt not to use.
Unfortunately sometimes in games like this, you need a guide, things are easily missed or not explained right.
Can’t wait to dig into this.
I find it strange you can release a complete walkthrough of the game before it releases everywhere, yet reviews done by various companies like yourselves on games before they are released is protected by some embargo rules? Please explain
I started the game yesterday morning and it’s incredibly overwhelming. Not the content itself, but how massive Hogwarts is. I started the two main quests after the intro (visit two classrooms) and it nearly took over an hour to do so because of how expansive the castle is, and the side quests within them.
I get off work at noon today, so I’m looking forward to making more progress. So far the game is excellent. You can see the love and care put into this title; it’s a love letter with its own story. I’m excited to see how everything pans out.
@rumple1980 Guides were also embargoed until yesterday; we just chose to publish ours a little later to coincide with the early access launch.
@LiamCroft Ah I c... thanks for clarifying
Thanks, I want to go into this game blind and not follow a guide. It would be good to know if there is anything I might miss to get the platinum though.
Not quite a guide question, however I'm wondering which graphics setting to use? I'm leaning performance based on 60hz, but might try blanced and see if vrr works on my tv. Any suggestions?
@PhantomMenace84 perhaps this article can help you https://www.purexbox.com/news/2023/02/xbox-players-encouraged-to-change-two-camera-settings-in-hogwarts-legacy
Absolutely obsessed with the game. Hands-down my GOTY. Can't see anything even coming close to this one.
@scoobdoo stop it, I have to wait three more days 😩
@PhantomMenace84 all you have to do is turn look speed all the way up and acceleration all the way down. It's the acceleration that makes it feel like it has lag.
But turning down the camera speed will not help and make it way worse altogether.
@Elodin I'm playing on balanced. But I'm going to be honest here. The game is not stable on any mode aside from performance, however, there is a noticeable draw distance reduction with performance mode.
Balanced is good and hovers around the intended 40, but like I said I hope they patch it because the framerate is not stable even with vrr uncapped on all the modes aside from performance.
@KundaliniRising333 thanks for the feedback. I'll try balanced and see if it bothers me too much. That is even if my tv can handle vrr. It is supposed to with an update last year.

@GProsciutto we found the *****
I’ve been playing for about three hours since Tuesday… and. Hot take. I think this game is bad. I am so bored playing it. I feel bad I paid full price for it.
Slowly working my way through this magical masterpiece and I can honestly say I'm absolutely blown away. Sure, it has some flaws and rough edges, but I couldn't care less! They DID IT! It's literally a dream come true for me. Bravo, Warner Bros., and most of all, bravo, Avalanche! You went from a Cars 3 tie- in to this?! You've officially joined the prestige club of AAA developers in my eyes. Absolutely phenomenal work ...and so many nostalgic references to the old Zelda- inspired licensed games too, which I love! Even Flipendo made it in lol
Seriously, though, the attention to detail is absolutely insane so far. Can't even remember the last time I've seen so much love poured into a single game before.
Also, Ravenclaw FTW!
@Savage_Joe thanks will give that a try.
