If you've been waiting for more information about Helldivers 2, you'll want to give the above video a watch. The co-op shooter is very nearly here, and developer Arrowhead has divulged some more details about the game's general structure, progression, and more.
To summarise: you'll go out on Operations in order to fight back against the bug-like Termininds or the mechanical Automatons. These Operations comprise a handful of missions, with a variety of objectives like destroying enemy nests or securing important data. Your exploits will contribute to the overall Galactic War effort — an evolving, community-wide goal to eradicate the enemy. These are the game's major orders but you'll also have personal orders — additional smaller objectives that'll reward you for putting in the extra effort to complete them.
You pick and choose your missions from the spaceship hub, which itself can be upgraded over time. Doing so enables you to expand and upgrade your arsenal. Additionally, you'll need to earn medals to gain currency with which to buy new armour, primary weapons, and so on.
Arrowhead also teases it'll be keeping an eye on how everyone is playing the game, and will make live changes accordingly, which sounds pretty cool to us. Overall the game seems like it has quite a lot of systems, but nothing too complicated. We're very curious to put it through its paces when the time comes on 8th February.
There's a little more information on the PS Blog too, if you're interested. Are you excited for Helldivers 2? Exit cryosleep in the comments section below.

We're planning an online night in work to play this when it lands.
It looks like a lot of crazy silly fun.
@Shepherd_Tallon online night at work? Explain immediately lol
I still can’t believe this game is only $40 I feel like it should be worth more after watching this trailer.
Pretty stoked to drop into this chaos with the homies
I really want this but I'd be playing with randoms and I know from experience (Hell Let Loose) after a month or so, people will just be trolling with team kills.
My hype levels for this have risen, games looks like a lot of fun and even though I believe it will be on playstation plus by the end of the year I will still be getting this day one.
@NinjaNicky
Ugh. That sounds awful.
Helldivers 2 somehow looks even more fun than the first game, which is no easy feat.
Nice that they went into a better deep dive. Looks more fleshed out than i expected. I just don't have people I play online with anymore. That died with the after dominating in the Socom series died.
Maybe is missed something but:
In the first helldivers the factions were bugs, advanced squid people and cyborgs. They changed it to automatons and deleted the squad people?
@NinjaNicky @TheCollector316 Just fwiw Hell Let Loose was not constant teamkilling for years. Still isn't. That game is super hard to play though, hopefully this is much less so, or that it at least does a better job explaining how the systems work.
This looks a realy solid release. This year is starting as packed as last!
@JaphyRider I had one good game the other night with a really good team but the next match was just people using artillery to kill us and shoot us when we were close to capturing points. It wouldn't be as bad if there wasn't a 30 seconds spawn time
The Finals and now this. This is the most ive been excited for multiplayer shooters in a loooonnnng time. I loved the first game and this is shaping up to be a worthy sequel. I have my brothers and friends interested in playing this time around too.
@NinjaNicky Word, that spawn time can be brutal
Join me on PC. Free online multiplayer, mods and keyboard and mouse.
I will no longer be giving my money to Sony, Steam all the way!
@Mikey856 He works for Sony, nobody would cap this much for a billion dollar company unless they had vested interest.
@Jamesblob Are you trying to suppress free speech?
Good lord!
@Jamesblob I played a bit of the first one and really enjoyed it. Can't actually remember why I stopped playing tbh. This one does look good and at £35, it's probably worth the risk
@3:36 That 50 cyan currency under the 2900, wonder if its premium currency.
Looks like a game I might try if it was free to play....who knows if it surprises me with stellar reviews i will get it potentially...but I would be shocked if they are anything above average
@StylesT
First part was way above average.
@StylesT part 1 was free at plus ar one point so I reckon theres a good chance this will be too.
