Hideo Kojima stole the latest State of Play, despite strong competition from a well-rounded selection of reveals. The epic almost 10-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has attracted the most views thus far on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel, racking up over 450k views at the time of writing. The ex-Konami auteur also attracted a further 115k views for his announcement of a new espionage action game and movie with Sony, alongside PS Studios boss Hermen Hulst.
These are all the trailer views from the event, accurate at the time of publication. Please note, we’re only taking into account the official PlayStation YouTube channel’s numbers here, so the data may differ when you introduce mirrors from various other channels.
- Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – 456k
- Silent Hill 2 – 375k
- Sonic X Shadow Generations – 219k
- Stellar Blade – 214k
- Silent Hill: The Short Message – 205k
- Rise of the Ronin – 201k
- Judas – 157k
- Until Dawn – 154k
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 – 116k
- Physint – 115k
- Metro Awakening VR – 91k
- Helldivers 2 – 64k
- V Rising – 54k
- Zenless Zone Zero – 53k
- Dave the Diver – 38k
- Legendary Tales – 36k
- Foamstars – 25k
As for the State of Play livestream, the English language version has attracted almost two million views thus far. While no trailer has drawn humongous numbers like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Hogwarts Legacy in the past, Sony will be happy with the rather consistent spread here – more than half of the trailers are over 100k, for example, suggesting fans were interested in virtually all of the titles on display.

Excited to see whatever this new espionage IP is.
Surprised Stellar Blade got those numbers. Happy to see it get them tho.
Stellar Blade is a bomb.
I don't have VR, but legendary tales it's not beautiful, but the gameplay was awesome.
Man that's even crazier when you consider that Indiana Jones made 550k visuals on Xbox channel. This game's gonna be a hit
Death Stranding 2 looks amazing and bonkers, whatever you think of Kojima, you just have to love that at some point he thought what this game needs most is a stop motion animation talking puppet.
Loved the first one and this looks to be as brilliant and looks stunning, we need more Decima engine games
@carlos82 I just love how the man is full of ideas. They might not all work out for everyone, but one can't help to appreciate how he always tries to make something interesting.
@Kidfried he seems to have a lot of passion for what he does as well, a bit of a visionary too.
@carlos82 100% on Decima engine. It makes some absolutely beautiful looking games.
@voltum3l Legendary Tales had me when it showed you can grab skeletons and punch them in the head.
Top tier immersion right there, sign me up!
@voltum3l there’s always some negative Nancy here lol.
@Kidfried yeah at the very least it's different to the typical AAA open world games. One thing I did like about it was it made traversal interesting, as you had to think about your route, rather than just moving in a straight line to your destination, oh and making a network of zip lines was fun
@AndyKazama Do not underestimate the power of waifus!
@get2sammyb they know exactly what that games selling point is
Looks like another year of hardly any First Party AAA exclusives.
@Sifi luckily there are lots of other great games to play
I'm all in for more Kojima and his wild bulls**t.
I did cringe a bit at the thunder shooting guitar though... just a small involuntary cringe reflex I could not escape.
@Sifi the year just started, and if they announced everything now, people will start complaining that they won't show anything new during the rest of the year.
There are some great third party AAA exclusives coming. And on some where first party studios helped with the development.
not bad "91k for Metro Awakening VR". The power of the IP ? or people interested in VR ?
That dummy has "Collector's Edition" written all over it.
@AndyKazama Why? The gameplay looks fun and it has cute waifus. The combo almost guarantees attention.
woof sorry foam stars and square
@puddinggirl looks great ,although I wasn't to keen on the 13 year old booby jiggle
Tbh his time slot was too long
@Perturbator I didn't like guitar weapon either. Also...the talking puppet? Those aspects seem to clash with the more bleak and serious tone of Death Stranding.
I'm still looking forward to it (as well as OD), but Kojima is going a little more goofy with DS2.
I do like how Kojima kind of does his own thing rather than follow trends. Sometimes a little arthouse gaming is nice.
@GamingFan4Lyf “I didn't like guitar weapon either. Also...the talking puppet?”
Death Stranding is also, if anything, weird. Guitar weapon and stop-motion animated puppets fit the bill of weird. Also, I like how said puppet is a little Sony meta humour as it’s voiced by Alastair Duncan and jokes about Mimir always hanging around Kratos’ butt.
And also fully agree with your last point. We can always count on Kojima to give us something different and artsy and I love him all for it.
It was all about Stellar Blade for me. Unpopular opinion: I think Kojima is a bad storyteller. MGS1 was incredible and he caught lightning in a bottle but everything after that has just been out of control weird and convoluted just for the sake of being different. I feel like his games would be much better if he had an editor come in and cut his first drafts to pieces. Anyway, just my opinion.
@CharlieChooChoo I guess I just expected more of a...hmm..."serious weird" rather than a goofy weird. But I guess you never know what Kojima will do next, eh?
@invictus4000 you aren't the only one in agreement on Kojima. Feels like a mess of hubris barfed into a game. In the case of DS, for me it's wasted potential.
@GamingFan4Lyf He's one of the very few directors of AAA games that is allowed to take any artistic chances these days, it seems, so have to appreciate him for that.
@puddinggirl @get2sammyb
I come from a time when waifus were laughed at. I will never get used to their selling power
My biggest regret is that I don't like what Death Stranding is, or had too many games to play, so I never had to settle for a walking Sim that may or may not have evolved into a great game.
I loved the Metal Gear story and gameplay and I don't with DS.
That said, what an entertaining trailer. I love the God of War-figurine that snake, sorry Delivery-boy has around his waist.

I'm incredibly hyped for Death Stranding 2.
Kinda crazy how I wrote the game off when it released but decided to give it a random shot when the Director's Cut released on PS5 and I fell in love with it. Goes to show that diving into a game head first can be a good thing.
Stellar Blade reminds me of Nier Automata so I'm incredibly excited.
That guitar weapon gave me Mad Max vibes. Thought it was awesome.
Why is comedian Mickey Flanagan a doll in Death Stranding 2?
@Kidfried I just love how they pump these 10 minute trailers out full of nonsense. You can watch it all and still have no idea what's going on. The story in 1 was also bonkers, and if 2 is as solid as 1 then I'm all over it!
Troy Joker fighting a baby samurai mech with an electric guitar. You can't make that up.
DS2 looks absolutely bonkers yet gorgeous. So pumped for it!! I’m sure Mr. Kojima will pull off a banger with it once again
I didn't like the look of Death Stranding. Not a fan of Kojimas style.
