Considering that Kojima Productions is nowhere near the biggest developer in the world, it seems absurdly busy at the moment. The Japanese team has Death Stranding 2: On the Beach slated for 2025, it's collaborating with Xbox on OD, and now there's a new IP in the works funded by Sony. That is a lot of work for a relatively small studio, and given the fact this new title will only properly enter production once Death Stranding 2 is complete, it begs the question: has the first PS6 game just been announced right under our noses?
Let's look at some projected timelines. A console generation usually lasts anywhere from six to eight years, and after the PS5's launch in 2020, the PS6 has probably been pencilled in for release somewhere around 2027 or 2028. If Physint, as it's being referred to, is only entering production "in earnest at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2" is complete, then the team is going to need at least another few years before it's ready to put that out also. The release of OD also has to fit in there somewhere — which will take up resources — though it seems that may be a slightly smaller release than a Death Stranding game. If this all lines up and Kojima Productions encounters few development issues, then a launch in 2027 or 2028 may be realistic. At that point, we could be looking at a cross-gen title for PS5 and PS6.
Hideo Kojima himself has even described the "action espionage" video game meets movie as something for the "next generation". He continues: "It will be created using cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from film and video games. Of course this is an interactive 'game', but the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc... are all at the next level of 'Digital Entertainment' that could be called a 'movie'."
So, could Physint actually be the first PS6 game we know about, even though platforms weren't confirmed during the State of Play livestream last night? What do you think? Do the timelines line up for this project to come to Sony's next console? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

If that's the case they shouldn't have bothered announcing it yet hate it when games that haven't even started being made get teased i don't care if its not going to be available for at least 5 years.
I think it should be typed with capitals, "PHYSINT", as Kojima has done. In the world of espionage and intelligence, there is already HUMINT, SIGINT, OSINT, etc, to categorise intelligence according to the source, and they are always capitalised. So PHYSINT would make sense as an espionage-esque title, but "Physint" would not.
Sounds like Sony wants Kojima to connect to his past and they are building the bridge for him to get there.
They’re smart. MGS style game with the auteur at the helm? Sign me up.
The maths checks out. Surely this new game won't release for about 4 years after DS2, so 2029 or thereabouts. Adding 2 years to the (new) usual 7 for COVID/supply crisis stuff and 2028-2029 sounds like a reasonable guess for when the 10th gen will start. TBH, the ps5 pro and those new rumoured Xbox Series whatever models (late 2024?) are probably a way to keep this gen chugging along after such a slow start. Almost like the new models are the 'real' 9th gen and these 4 years were a weird transitional period.
The timeline is what stumps me. Kojima tends to hold things close to the chest and relishes in the big teasers and cryptic rumors. To come out with an announcement of this game so soon makes me wonder why announce it now? Especially since DS2 is on the horizon for next year?
Of course Overdose was teased a couple years ago and I don’t think there’s been much info about that for quite some time now.
So is this new tactical espionage game going to be a PS6 game? I don’t know but I’m leaning toward it being a late PS5 game, maybe cross gen. This console generation is likely to be a little longer than average because of the protracted rollout during the pandemic. We don’t even have PS5 Pro yet.
I think the innovative part of this next game is going to be some kind of multimedia cross-over. There’s specific reference to a “movie”, and so expect a Sony Pictures production that somehow integrates with the game. I’m not sure that’s what I want personally, but it’s Kojima, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt
I love everything Hideo did since MGS1 came out but this was the most useless announcement ever.
'Yeah we are going to start on this game after our current game is released that also won't be released at least in the next 1,5 year.'
I thought it being a ps6 title was obvious, if it's only starting production after ds2 releases in 2025. This is going to be close enough to a decade away more than likely
physint the first ps6 game ? Not sure such a project would be limited to the early adopters (assuming it releases in << 7 years). Maybe the first ps6 remaster ?
Kojima does indeed keep things close to his chest, but…….. has he, himself and Sony been working on this in secret for a while now?
Maybe that could be why they announced it?
We may see it sooner that we think
I mean, most likely. This game won't come out for 4 years at least so....
On the whole I don't like announcing games this early, in a perfect world it shouldn't be done often. But we know announcements like this are usually there to act as hiring adverts or in other cases used to gauge interest and drum up investment. It's complicated.
So i'm fine with one or two being known about in the long future, and a couple in the shorter future, but everything else should be in the next year or so imo.

Yeah. There is no way that this new game will be done before 2030.
Even if Death Stranding 2 won't suffer from any delays (which is always a possibility) and will release in 2025, you are looking at 5-6 years AAA development (which is standard currently). Not to mention fact that Kojima is also working on OD for Xbox.
I'd rather get more PS5 games before PS6 games are announced. Apart from remakes or PS4 upgrades, this generation is lacking on games
In theory it could end up a stealth PS6 title. Likewise it could just as easily be a crossgen PS5/6 assuming the PS5 can get up to PS4 lifetime sales by then.🤔
The other aspect will be what sort of tech is driving it...the Kojima/XB collaboration is already hyping its use of cloud services with Microsoft's Azure.
Thus far Sony has largely stayed quiet about the subject though we have had hints from Jim Ryan & even Mark Cerny interviews of Cloud computing being possibly used in game development.
Who knows what tech they're looking at for next gen but you can be sure if one side is looking to incorporate it,the other will be considering their own options.
The verbage he used is........ concerning. Almost like he was trying to say" it's an interactive movie, but not really because I make video games, but really it's an interactive movie"
Ps6? The ps5 has barely started to reach its full potential yet. I think talk of a ps6 is premature.

It certainly seems like all signs point to it being a PS6 game. However many people doubted Death Stranding was going to release on PS4 at the time so who knows? I'm just happy Kojima is going back to Espionage. I don't mind how far away it is as just hearing he is going back to his roots as someone who didn't click with Death Stranding is enough to get me excited.
@CallMeDuraSouka One could argue that the Metal Gear Solid series is nothing more than an interactive movie - especially MGS4 which is like 10 minutes of gameplay followed by 20 minutes of cutscene (I think the ending itself is like an hour long).
Wow wasn't expecting to be disappointed about a game being cross gen for ps6/ps5 in 2024
That would be insane considering we're still getting cross gen games with PS4.
They'll probably still be people moaning it's not coming to PS4!
@Northern_munkey PS6 will be here 2027/2028. You can't hold back progress just because devs decided to keep making last gen games
@Rangers420 exactly. Not to mention he mumbled right at the end of that cringey scripted discussion that it was not just a game but a movie.
@Th3solution Overdose got a trailer last month, so it actually been quite recent since we got so information.
I definitely feel like that trailer along with all the other bomb shell announcements Microsoft has made. Has pushed for Sony to have Kojima announce this, so it don’t look like Sony is losing ground
I agree this is way to early to even discuss. I prefer when games are announced and released 6-12 months later. I know I am talking crazy but there are some publishers that somehow manage this.
I think when Kojima says, “For the next-generation” he literally means it. This game won’t be ready for 4-5 years. Crazy to drop a game that early, but I’m sure everyone is excited about the prospects, and now fans can be in on that excitement. Awesome to know it’s happening.
Death stranding 2 has really nice graphics. Wish they'd make genres I like. As those games from kojima aren't my type.
Bruh a ps6 game already no I'm good we still need to get a steady rhythm on ps5 games
@Th3solution I think the announcement timing is because of the Snake Eater remake releasing this year. Making it very clear to everyone that the spirit of Kojima era MGS will live on in PHYSINT.
@GamingFan4Lyf Great catch, id forgotten, it's been a while.
Eh I think I loved it at the time, so I'm probably grasping at straws......... hopefully.
I think the game will be released sooner than what everyone is expecting and on PS5. Take Death Stranding for example and remember how fast it was released after the creation of Kojima Production
@CallMeDuraSouka Oh I loved every moment of MGS games despite all the cutscenes and convoluted story-telling.
People who complain about his story-telling being massively convoluted must not be fans of classic anime as they are generally pretty out there and have all kinds of twists and turns and lots of hefty convoluted monologues to talk about what is really going on.
I wouldn't read too much into this. Baldurs Gate 3 tagline is "A next generation RPG" but it is of the current generation. I think people just use wording weirdly.
@TrickyDicky99 yeah whatever 👍
I don't know if it'll be a PS6 game per-say, but more or less Kojima just saying how he wants to do something new with this, similar to that horror game he showed off at the Game Awards.
If this is a PS6 game then in my opinion this generation blows. My favourite games I played on PS5 were also released on PS4.
@AverageGamer Oh, that’s really interesting. I didn’t know there was an Overdose trailer recently, so that makes total sense that could have expedited this announcement just for the sake of optics between Sony and Kojima Studios.
Kojima is like the belle of the ball with all the suitors that want to be seen with and so he’s playing both sides to keep everyone happy.
This generation will easily go down as the worst when it’s all said and done. Mostly cross gen games and filler and it’s almost over already smh
Just realized I'll be 45 when this game comes out.
@liamcroft
So this might be pure conspiracy on my part, but I think Wesley , previously of Eurogamer, is hijacking articles and reposting them on IGN from Pushsquare, Eurogamer, Pure Xbox.
I've noticed a LOT of similar articles find their way on IGN shortly after they get published on these sites
We should live our current generation and hope this game hits the PS5. Nobody can predict the future and the "PS6" is just an illusion (or a project ) right now.

You gotta love that Kojima and Sony partnership. Kojima definitely has all the funding and resources he needs to pump out his games.
I really don't mind that the game is years away. Personally, I love having stuff like this (on occasion) get announced where we have years of anticipation, discussion, and hype around it. On a base level, it's just cool to know that Kojima is working on something akin to MGS, which is something I always hoped he'd return to.
100% if Death Stranding 2 is 2025, then this could possibly be 2029/30, surely we will be gaming on ps6 by then
Talk of a possible PS6 game already. sigh Guess PS5 will go down as the "lost" console generation. Released during a pandemic, locked into cross gen titles for far to long, a potential PS5 pro releasing when the base version has barely sniffed it's potential.
@Shad361 this generation will go down as the worst? This generation has been damn good so far. All the ps4 games that have had free ps5 upgrades so they are the best they can possibly be is just one highlight. Granted there have been a lot of remasters which has become a bit tiresome now but to say this gen is the worst is reaching..really reaching. There seems to be an awful lot of you guys that are really down on the ps5 and it's almost as if you regret purchasing it. So why are you here trolling away on a gaming site for a console you oh so obviously are not enamoured with? I don't get it at all. The worst generation by far pah!
@Northern_munkey probably because It’s a clear downgrade from the last half of the previous generation. PS5 has been carried by multiplats and cross gen games. Almost all of the PS5 exclusives like Returnal and Ratchet have been ported to PC or will be ported quickly and new ones take forever to release.
The Console doesn’t even have 5 exclusives worth playing total at the moment.
PS4 had the excuse of having no backwards compatibility and the PS3 having the cell what’s PS5 excuse?
PS5 will leave no legacy when it’s all said and done
Rushing in the era of the PS6, when I feel we haven't even had a decent run with this current gen yet smh
Betteridge's Law.
There is only one correct answer.
@Shad361 then why are you still bothering with it? You are obviously unhappy with it so maybe try one of the other consoles or maybe a PC? Hopefully you can find something that makes you happy other than talking negative about the ps5 all the time..
@Shad361 the pandemic clearly slowed game development down a lot , but people seem to forget that. not to mention costs to develop these games just keep going up because people expect more and more. they have plenty have studios working on games would you rather they rush them or make the best game possible? those era's people keep bringing up developers made their teams pull 80 hour weeks to meet deadlines , those days are long gone as they should be.
@Shad361 thinking back on the ps4..no backwards compatability and there was not that many first party exclusives either and the big ones that did release were ported to the PC too so I'm sorry your argument has no momentum..the ps5 has so far emulated the ps4 gen but with the addition of much better graphics,3d sound, backwards compatability with enhanced versions in a lot of cases, free native ps5 upgrades, ssd and proper hdr implementation. Yes the worst generation by far 🤔
Maybe, but it's sure to come out on ps5 as well.
@Northern_munkey PS4 games had a more noticeable leap. Killzone shadowfall and Infamous were way more impressive for its time. You’re mentioning raw hardware too not saying anything about the tiny library
@twitchtvpat hasn’t stopped insomniac or capcom or even Nintendo. Wouldn’t be surprised if Sony is doing it on purpose to save money why even bother making games when people will buy the console regardless
@Shad361 😴
@SavoyPrime no ones rushing anything , but its safe to assume by 28/29 that the ps6 will either be announced or released which is what 8 or 9 years after the ps5 release is a pretty safe bet.
Yes, it’s definitely a PS6 game. I’m glad they announced it. Seeing a map of future releases makes me feel much better about buying a console. This will likely be 2029 at the earliest, probably more likely to be 2030 and PS5 will be old news by then.
