Despite it almost being February, RPG-to-beat Baldur's Gate 3 has secured another prestigious Game of the Year win, this time from the New York Video Game Critics Circle. As previously announced, there, at the New York Game Awards, Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann received the Andrew Yoon Legend Award for outstanding contributions to the industry.
While perhaps not as glitzy as Geoff Keighley's The Game Awards, its winners make more sense in some cases. TGA gave its "Best Ongoing" trophy to Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty, whereas the same expansion won "Best DLC" at NYVGCCC (credit where it's due; Keighley has the better acronym).
BG3 also picked up the Herman Melville Award for Best Writing, and Saga Anderson actor Melanie Liburd secured Best Actor in Alan Wake 2, with Remedy also walking away with the Statue of Liberty Award for Best World. Held in Manhattan, the New York Game Awards have been running since 2012, with its goal being to "recognize outstanding achievement in video games”.
